I finally found a side bench vise! it maybe similar to Timber's one

The clamp doesn't close perfectly square though. Is this normal? i will just adjust it through the wood padding. Is plywood alright as a padding? or will it be too soft?

I have to take out my first drawer in my new bench for this vise.. and add more solid wood, where it will be clamped. Then i can finally make use of dog holes (i hate chiseling). I might go for square ones.

Then i found 2 long clamps 65 to 75 cm effective clamping length

Really heavy though. I can now glue some think counter tops... finally!

weeeeeeeeeeeeee. the vise cost me a small fortune... i will definitely be MAKING my router table instead of buying one.

im excited na for christmas as my wife will be buying me my table saw as her christmas gift to me.. meaning il be able to free some more funds for a plainer thicknesser. sarap... sana i wont be too busy next year so i can spend more time sa workshop .

how do u put in pics here?? il paste and show how my messy workshop looks.. hahahah.. my wife was helping me look for a handful of nails in my workshop last night. it almost ended in a fight cause she cant stop making comments about how messy my workshop is.

all is good though. she knows naman na this is my only vice.

Re: new tool finds!

Thaks Ernie 🙂

the side vise cost a whopping 5K plus... its HEAVY ... hence my plywood counter top will have to have an under counter of solid wood for this thing to be bolted securely

the 65 cm clamps were 615 pesos.. heavy as well... sa Hans tool naman to sa shang mall.

i upload my image at www.imageshack.us its free.. so creat an account so you can manage your pics.. then sa options above the text box of this forum there is an image of mountain. click that and paste there the DIRECT link of your pic uploaded in imageshack. you will know what the direct link mean once you have uploeaded an image

What table saw is she getting you? so far i have managed to use my circular saw well enough to forego on a table saw (except dadoes) since i found a trick for a shop built guide rail.

Re: new tool finds!

I thought you were asking about the side tail vise, if what you have is the Record 52 1/2, then that is what I have, pretty nice and solid vise. Yes the dont close parralel, the top should close slightly ahead of the bottom of the faces so that it would clamp evenly with pressure. I was just wondering why so much rust on a new vise? do post the work in progress on your vise installation. it might help others in the future.
congrats on your new tool finds, it should help you do more....

i forgot to photograph it. its a stanley dovetail saw... and it was also the only one in the store same as the vice

And Timber, yes, it is the same as your's. 52 and 1/2 irwin Record. I think i got it at a decent price since i saw an online shop selling it for 76 british pounds
