Re: Post your drills (corded or cordless)

do cordless drills have the muscle to bore concrete with a single charge? - let's say 10 holes 4mm each with a depth of 50mm each.

Re: Post your drills (corded or cordless)

My current cordless drill drivers setup ...

The Makita 7.2V Nicad 3/8" drill served me so well that I decided to buy a new battery for it. For smaller bits 1/4" & below this is my drill choice.

Except for the Makitas all are Lithium Ion Battery operated.

Jay, are you still able to find brand new spare battery for the makita 60120?

Try amazon. Last time I checked there were also a lot of compatibles being sold.

Anyway I purchased my 2nd battery almost 3 years ago. If this one craps out then I'll probably try have it repacked with new batteries locally.

I'm using the Bosch 18v cordless drill and I bore 5mm x 50mm the whole day and charge is still good for 2days. It replaced my corded drill which I already gave to my mom.

Re: Post your drills (corded or cordless)

another impact driver for me..i am no fan of this yellow tool. it will serve as a back up.

powered by a 18V li-ion batt.

i cannot say yet that the built in led light will come in handy in the future.

Re: Post your drills (corded or cordless)

@V ... looks like a good tool ... an impact driver. If you're not happy then you can probably put it on ads and then buy a Makita or a Bosch. 🙂

Looking at the new model 18V tools ( Metabo or Bosch ) I feel it a sin to even think of needing a backup more so having one. LOL

Re: Post your drills (corded or cordless)

Now I'm thinking of getting a cordless impact wrench that will stay permanent inside the car (for spare tire changes)

Looking at bosch/makita... snap-on costs a a lot but great reviews!!!

Battery powered 1/2" impact wrench for lug nuts probably torqued at a minimum 90 ft lb. This will be a difficult choice and for sure will not come cheap but steep. Ingersoll Rand and Snap On comes to my mind and maybe Bosch too.

My Bosch 18V 3/8" impact wrench ( 133 ft lb ) won't even touch lug nuts.

Re: Post your drills (corded or cordless)

Good point, JayL.

However, the torque when breaking the lug nuts loose. So maybe the standard tire wrench can be used for breaking and then shift to the cordless.

It doesn't have to be an impact wrench anymore. Just a plain cordless drill will do. Let the tire wrench do the high-torque job.

Better yet get a water proof/resistant cordless drill so you can quickly change tires in the rain.

Re: Post your drills (corded or cordless)

Doesn't lug nut require 110 ft lbs only? Air powered is really the most common way but since air hose is a form of cord, battery would be the only option. And it seems it would only be used on occasions i think he can get away with the impact wrench Jay recommended. But it should touch the lug nuts.... Lol

Probably this is one of the few applications that Dewalt will be ranking higher on my choice list.

Re: Post your drills (corded or cordless)

Why is that?

I have no direct experience on it but garage journal pro mechanics seems to like the durability / performance and price aspects of the Dewalt impacts for their livelihood use. Of course these are the guys that have priorities other than spending their money on Snap On or Ingersoll Rand battery powered impact drivers.
