My personal say to this is that its made of cheap cast iron which really cannot be welded for it to be repaired. Perhaps welds will stick at first, but it will only be a surface weld, there won't be any total fusion of metal. 😮

I am saying this based on experience. I have two 4" portable table bench vise before, I know they are China/Taiwan made, typical imports by ACE hardware, colors red and the other one is blue. The first one broke after several use, welded the part that split to the main body to maintain its grip on metal, I thought it was OK na but when I used it again it broke or snapped again in the same area, then checked the metal surface itself and there were no weld penetration and its really different from an ordinary mild steel or carbon steel, very similar to the C clamp that I broke before. So just have to throw it in the scrap bin and the same thing happened with the other bench vise so I did not anymore bother to weld the broken part and again just threw it in the scrap bin. :rolleyes:

And from some research, cast irons are not that strong and are brittle in nature that is why they are manufactured thick if used for some kitchen cookwares, though they are lighter than carbon steel.

Yutektek ang tawag namin dito..i dont know if it is a brand name or what..
I used it twice when i try to seal a crack of vehicle transmision..and it work.
Vehicle transmision is made out of cast iron,minsan kung tawagin naming mga mekaniko,malyable or mestisong pundido..sir jay correct me if im wrong..
But others are made of cast aluminum.

The second time i have a chance to use it when i try to join a broken hollow block
Pallet( paleta)unfortunately nalusaw lang yung paleta..hehehe ..when i examine the palet,grainy yung casting ng iron nya,baka yun na nga yung cheap cast iron na sinasabi mo.

Anyway yutektek or whatever it is..are widely available at any hardware stores..
Sabihin mo lang "pang welding ng poso":)

a bit of OT here mga masters, can you identify what kind of metal is used on this clamp?, can this be fixed by welding?

Eutectic welding rods for cast iron siguro Sir.....pag clamps, dapat forge-forged steel....

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to weld the c clamp itself. The weld might be strong but it could break again in another portion.
