Hello Everyone, I'm new here in Pinoy Handy Man. Can anyone recommend me a good reputable portable lithium ion powered drill brand and model? Since all of my tools are electric powered, I want to have a backup drill just in case the jobsite that I go to doesn't have electricity. Basically going to use it for woodworks installation.
Thanks in Advance 🙂

I"m just new here and this is the response I get, Didn't know people here are so rude. Yes I am a powertool user, but never had any portable power tools experience. Why couldn't I get any opinions or recommendations? Added knowledge is always better and I don't know everything. I guess your a type of person who knows everything. Too bad.

Hello there idv14,
First of all brad, My apologies for the rudeness of the co member who replied first on your query, probably he just had a rough time from work or kidding you or whatever. So sorry for the negative reply you got and perhaps the negative impression you will be thinking of PHM. Basically this community is a very friendly one trying to help and share with other members specially newbies, its just that we have to understand also, we have thousands of members with different backgrounds, characters, attitudes and opinions that we have to balance and dance with, so do please have the patience and flexibility to face assorted opinions or replies.
Since you are new here in the forum and with your new post, let me WELCOME you first here sa PHM community. We are glad that you finally decided to register and be part of this forum. Let me assure you, PHM community is a friendly forum and the admins, moderators will see to it that this forum stays that way specially for pinoys.
Now to answer your question, you can select from these brands, MAKITA, METABO, BOSCH and DEWALT, these brands produces power tools that are industrial and professional grade power tools, only they are a bit pricey compared to the other brands available in the market.
Bro, IMHO, no one or nobody here is a master of the power tools we purchase, we are all DIYers here, buying/acquiring assorted/several tools for our usage and really learning how to operate them correctly in the best and safest way we can, then share the knowledge, experiences and learning with other members. Anyway since you said your tools are usually electric, same as mine too, what brand/s are you using, maybe they belong to the DIY type use only or at least with your current assorted power tools you will be able to decide which is a better brand.
Hope this reply can be of help !!! 😉 🙂 😎

Good am idv14,
Welcome !!! That is how we normally greet someone new regardless of background or expertise. Forgive our co-member's initial response. Whatever possessed him to greet your post in such a form I am assuming he is just joking or perhaps in a not so pleasant mood. Nevertheless don't be discouraged as most of us in this community take your posts with utmost respect and reply urgently to aid you in your quest for DIYing. If I may, here are several things I consider in your query as a co contractor:
1. Budget
2. Grade of usage; heavy duty, light duty etc.
3. User training - a lot of site workers have the ability to destroy even the most unbreakable brands
4. Brand affinity - we as DIYers have our own preference but for job site users you may have to factor in site abuse in your deliberation.
Now, here are tried and tested brands in my 17 years as a heavy user of local brands:
Metabo, Makita, Hitachi, and Bosch. You may also try to use the surplus brands like RYOBI. They aren't as heavy duty but they do get the job done especially for budget conscious people like me. I could not speak for the famous imported models 'coz God knows how much they cost to make them work on my sites (110V transformers) and how my workers would love to give them a whack:eek: Keep your posts coming and we will try to answer them in the best form we can. Have a nice day!:)
Re: Recommendations of a reputable portable drill
I do have a few Bosch, Makita and Metabo cordless drills. Based on your post probably an 18V Drill Driver would be the better choice as backup for your wood works installation. I would not even be surprised if it replaces your corded drill for this purpose.
Any of the three brands mentioned above would be good choices.
Here check out these models designed for professional / commercial applications.
Millermatic 180 Autoset Mig Welder
Miller Spoolmate 100 Spool Gun
Victor Firepower 350 Oxy Ace Outfit
3M Speedglas 9002X AD Helmet
Makita LC1230 Dry Cut Saw
Ingersoll Rand Air Tools
Snap On Tools
Metabo Power Tools
Norseman Drill Cutting Tools
Bosch Power Tools

what caught my attention is the statement you had above. no matter what the brand is, invest on spare batteries.
personally i'm 50-50 on battery operated tools, yes they do provide additional muscle when needed, not to mention the amount of time cut when being used. most true when you do a ton of screwing and drilling ahead of you. what keeps me out of these tools is tha word itself - battery.
you can't go wrong with the know brands: bosch, metabo, makita, dewalt, hitachi, etc...
Idv4,welcome to the forum and same here newbie sa forum.
I'm using ozito cordless 14.4v bought outside the country with extra battery included. Been using it for more than 2 years and still working 😀
The brand is a cheapo brand that you can search sulit. com (my apologies kung bawal mag commercial ng website) but it works for me.
If you have the ₱₱₱, you can go wrong with known brands.
Enjoy!

Re: Recommendations of a reputable portable drill
Hello Rosy, Willyfernando, JayL, Spyghost, kevlar.
Thanks for the warm welcome. No problem on what happend and thanks for explaining, I guess I was also excited this morning when I woke up on the feed backs I was going to get, all of sudden I get that response. Anyway moving forward I hope I learn new tips and information here in PHM.
Thank you all your help and recommendations. Reason why I want your recommendation is because I have no experience with battery operated portable drills and of course I'm a type of person when I purchase something I want it to be a bang for buck feeling. I guess you guys know what I mean hehe. Will let you guys know what I get and will give you feedback on how the performance etc. is.
I was thinking of getting power tools in amazon since I have a lot of relatives who come visit here in Manila but the thing is I'm not sure if the battery power tools in the U.S. is autovolt or 110V?
Thanks
Re: Recommendations of a reputable portable drill
Battery chargers in the US are often 110v only and not autovolt, get your cordless locally since Bosch has a lot to choose from. You get after sale service and warranty a US tool wouldn't have when brought here.
Batteries are quite reliable nowadays, not trying them is like not wanting to use a computer since you don't know, don't want to try and don't want to learn how to use them... You're missing a lot in technology. Having said that, not all tools, batteries or chargers are made with the same technology.... Some better and some really bad, choose a good one. Most of us have 18v drill/drivers with hammer function for drilling concrete.... Ask ernie what he uses and I will recommend that too.

There are a lot of imported models suited for your desired use but it will boil down to how you will manage warranty claims. A suitable transformer or a high capacity car inverter to provide AC power for your charging needs may work for 110v models. As Spyghost has mentioned, an investment in extra batteries will help you a lot.
