Re: Ryobi Planer Thicknesser Feed?
Fixed my thicknesser, guys. The chain was an easy fix. Just made a bit difficult because I have fat fingers fumbling with small parts. Didn't replace/reverse the blades since they all seemed sharp still. Got to clean the insides, too. Here's an advice to thicknesser owners: clean the insides whenever you have some free time. Payback is on how smooth the thicknesser operates afterwards. I never realized how far from new condition mine until after I cleaned it.

Re: Ryobi Planer Thicknesser Feed?
the way i would clean the chains of my BMX before was toothbrush with kerosene, then now adays, since grown up boys na, i spray chain lube sa chains ng bike ko.( i can still do mga 20 maybe 30 rounds ng elliptical circle.(but this time depends on the budget sa gas 😀 )
now with the blades naman , yes it is reversable, double sided blade. sometimes when im working with used lumber, id use one or two pass on the abused side then check the wood if may mga na miss ako na nails, if all is good i turn the blade around and work on the wood again using the good side ng blade to get that clean pass. di ko nga lang masyado nagagamit now cause my neighbor threatens to throw a grenade in my work shop if i turn the RYOBI thicknesser again. hahaha.. pikon. il give him a wood work product this christmas para ma consyensya for suppressing my wood working hobby. pang releave na nga ng stress yung hobby tapos ganun pa!!

Re: Ryobi Planer Thicknesser Feed?
Reversing the blades on the same lumber? Is reversing that easy? Or you just may be a very patient man. I saw how many bolts there were on each blade and I thought "Hmmm...this is a lot of work to reverse." Buti na lang, mine are still sharp.
Will probably get to it sometime next month. I'll spend a whole day just cleaning and tuning up all my stuff.
Re: Ryobi Planer Thicknesser Feed?
easy lang to take the blades out. you dont have to take out the screws, they act like clamps lang naman pressing the blade in place. just a few turn per screw and the blade is loose na.

Re: Ryobi Planer Thicknesser Feed?
The recommended lubrication for roller chains used in medium to low operation is to simply wipe the chain clean. When there is an excess build up of dust or wood shavings etc., coat chain with a light film of oil but never pour the oil directly on the chain. Over -oiling tends to hasten the collection of dust and woodshavings and works them into members of the chain leading to increased wear and premature replacement. This applies to the speed reduction and height adjustment chains as well as the elevation screws.
I regularly blast with compressed air and used machine oil before, but it seems to get grimy quickly and/or dries up and needs to be reapplied frequently. I'm trying this ProLink Chain Lube now.

Sounds like a good product, Guad. I assume it's available in local bike shops? Would appreciate knowing how it turns out for you. Thanks!
Re: Ryobi Planer Thicknesser Feed?
Don't know if locally available. I hope others more familiar with bike shops can advise on local availability. I got online - Amazon.
Re: Ryobi Planer Thicknesser Feed?
available yung Prolink sa High-end bike shops. I have 1 and i got it from Knobbies Bike shop in katipunan, it is besides the White Plain's gate. It is a very thin oil comparable to gun oils.

Good tip. Easy for me to get to. Thanks.
Re: Ryobi Planer Thicknesser Feed?
BTW, I was planing a 2x10x8 rough cut mahogany plank when suddenly my thicknesser sewed white smoke. Switched it off. Let it rest for a minute then jogged it. Still moved but still smoked.
I hope it's just some wood getting burned somewhere. But smoke seems to come from the motor. :boom1:
Will open it up tomorrow. Hope it's repairable.

I hope its just the wood causing the smoke, how about running it without a load?

Jogged it. It spun. Ran it without load, it ran. Inserted wood, it smoked. That's a bad sign. Hu-hu-hu.
Will open it up tomorrow evening.

Re: Ryobi Planer Thicknesser Feed?
Help!
Two days ago, white smoke came out of the motor of my Ryobi thicknesser. Opened it up today but can't look into the metal motor case. Managed to vacuum out all the wood dust. Also managed to crack the plastic housing all over.
Ran the motor without load and noticed that sparks kept flying where the carbon brush is. There's also that strong ugly familiar smell of burning.
Is my thicknesser done for? What could cause the burning? Any idea how I can fix this?
Re: Ryobi Planer Thicknesser Feed?
tsk tsk.. hope this is not the problem. the area where the carbon brush touch has pieces of copper strips, each piece is connected to a wire thats wrapped around the armature. minsan natatangal yung strips and di na smooth yung daan ng carbon brush, maybe that causes the sparks
