does anyone knows where to buy sand that is used for sand blasting metals? What is it called anyway? (Aluminum oxide?) Thanks!

i was able to buy 2kg of alu oxide last year, it was somewhere in mandaluyong. sorry i lost the contact number, but i guess if i still have it, an ordinary diyer wont be able to afford it because their min order is 25kgs. nakakuha lang ako kasi tiratira nila yon. i suggest try the shops that are into the aluminum glass and glass etching business and ask if they have contacts, or if they have it if you could buy some from them.

Can't you use just plain sand?

dont know for sure but alot of people say its a bad idea. alu oxide is finer compared to regular sand although i guess it depends on what grit you need. all i could think of why alu oxide is used instead of sand is that its the same thing used in sand papers.
