I don't recall a 'sewing thread' so far...

Need to do some sewing ... nothing complicated for now, not clothes, just joining of flat sheets (synthetic material, like nylon or polyester or PVC tarp, could be somewhat thick/heavy duty) that would then be under tension and maybe outdoors.

Looking for recommendations on sewing machines and where to buy locally. Haven't looked closely yet what is available in department stores, but I assume those are the plastic ones ... are they good, capable, reliable, durable? Any specific brands to look for?

TIA

Re: Sewing machines

i have this trusty 100V Brother Japan made sawing machine i got from Pier sometime in 1996 and it is still working fine. It managed to sew everything i throw at it...from silk to thin leather...i bought sawing needles that goes by the brand of Singer..i got #9 (for delicate shirts) to #18 (for jeans). I got to talk to a couturier recently and little that i know that a #7 needle is available for much delicate fabric.

The last work it worked on was the screen mesh for my dust collection of my 2012NB thicknesser.

this sawing machine can also make a lot of patterns for the edge treatments and can also make buttonholes. Another bonus is the lamp right on target.

i think i got to get some more bobbins para hindi hassle papalit palit ng thread.

Good luck on your sawing machine hunt!

Re: Sewing machines

since you will be joining tarps then go get a second hand Juki! haha

but it will be pretty expensive i guess being it an industrial grade.

The Brother i was talking about fetched at 2K way back then.

Now they sell it a little more than 3K.

From time to time i bring this machine to the same store where i bought it for "calibration" and oiling.

I cannot seem to tame the tool sometimes.

Hindi mo naitatanong, kaibigang V, pero noong araw ay nanahi ako ng kurtina at bed sheets para sa mga Hotel like manila Peninsula and Hyatt. That was in high school when i was supporting myself to school and 2 siblings. Ahh, i still remember the time my finger got caught in the machine while i was inserting the thread in the needle. I was a bit clumsy then but got better as time went on until i found myself doing Crazy cut patterns for bed covers and comforters. Pero ngayon iba na, nsa linya na tayo ng mga maskulado. Furniture upholstery na ginagawa natin. Eka nga ni Vice Ganda, PARLOR..............ng mga Macho!!!!:D;)

Try to browse the name Kimura Chavez Enterprise. They're located in front of St Luke's Medical Center Q.C. along E. Rodriguez Sr. Ave. Sewing machines is their business. They accept card payments.

Re: Sewing machines

Sir guad,

For sewing tarps, they recommend to use the high speed type po , usually Juki brand, yan din kasi gamit ng neighbor namin na gumagawa ng jeep covers e, they usually range from 7k upwards secondhand pa yun.

Or you can try yun mga surplus dyan sa pier kadalasan 110v pero okay naman as what Doc V had experienced.

HTH sir

Re: Sewing machines

That's a very nice and touching story bro imcnovicio, hahaha good memories of decades ago. I grew up too with having a Singer sawing machine in our house where my mother and auntie would make home made dusters, shorts, pajamas or pillow covers etc., for the house, oh its the sawing machine na de padyak, hehehe no electric machines then before. My auntie would let me sit beside near the sawing machine so that I'll be the one to put/insert the fine cotton thread in the needle hole, lol, malinaw pa mga mata natin nuong malilit pa tayo.

Anyway, so much for the short story, thanks for sharing links, promos, address of the source and contact nos. 🙂 :fetch1:
