Re: Show your Bosch tools ....

@ Joey ... I'm not a heavy RT user thus I opted for a mini to save shop space. It's a good RT ... no question about that in my mind. It works well with my Bosch router too ... fully compatible.

thanks jay....

Re: Show your Bosch tools ....

My go to drivers .... stubby but well balanced in the hand.

see ..... once the bit / holder is inserted then the length becomes " just right " ... nothing more nothing less 🙂 It is the reason why I chose Bosch over other makes in this particular class.

Re: Show your Bosch tools ....

thanks jay....

It's not that large when packed on it's carton. Will fit half space of the $75 balikbayan box.

In fact it's good to have 2 RTs. A custom built one and a mini for the times you don't want to disturb the bigger RT setup but need to quick route something.....

Thanks again jayL! Added to cart already.
OT: what router plate insert is good for custom built RT?

Re: Show your Bosch tools ....

I have the same RT, Joey. Works perfectly with the Bosch 1617 router. Got it because I'm too lazy to build my own router table. But I think if you have the patience and good materials, a custom RT would be more stable.

The way the featherboards are attached to the RT could be improved. It's a pain how those plastic spacers fall off when adjusting the featherboards.

All in all, if you don't have the time to build your own, this Bosch RT is good enough. Make sure you get the router lift. Get the EX2080 Xtreme Xtension while you're at it.

Oh, and get another router for handheld use. It's also a pain to remove the router from the table because you have to remove the featherboards, slide the fence, remove the baseplate...

Re: Show your Bosch tools ....

Ding is right about the feather boards. The miter slots are not standard both on the fence and RT but rather Bosch proprietary size. They supply 2 feather boards with the mini RT.

I think this is a good router for the Bosch mini RT.

http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-1617EVSPK-4-Horsepower-Variable-Collets/dp/B00005RHPD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330350931&sr=8-1

The fixed base can live permanently on the RT so the router body can slide in and out to transfer to the plunge base for handheld use.

I also have a hex key I can insert on top of the plate to raise or lower the router for fine adjustment. For rough adjustments I need to do it on the fixed base .. unlock then raise / lower the router body.

I too am lazy to build an RT :). Timber built a mini RT before ... a good it is.

Re: Show your Bosch tools ....

my 2nd power planer (1st power planer is also a bosch..a smaller one..green one..like this one but almost retired..) with edge guide attachment bought elsewhere...with plastic heel at rest..left or right dust port...i cant live without this tool to initially dimension lumber and before feeding to the thicknesser

with the edge guide attached, this planer is more like a small jointer! btw, the planer pictured in the box is my first planer..bought in 1993 for 3K at the entrance of Raon st (now Gil Puyat st..) i think the corner store there still exist..

who can survive working on laminates without this tool...the local version of variable speed Colt in the US...the GMR1..i have two but parting away with one soon.

pics to follow of my other bosch tools...like the ROS GEX 125-1AE and the GPO-14E variable speed polisher...cant still upload to photobucket ei...
well you know i also got the 18V lithium ion drill for free!
hoorray Bosch!
