i suspect it's the water, not the heat that bends the wood. the heat just helps. something to do with hydrogen bonding and elasticity

More the heat, really. Wood can be bent without water. Steam distributes the heat evenly while it lowers the "bending temperature" of the wood. But I prefer not to wet wood at all.

Hmmmm might be good for drying up things by air ... will check Panda when I go for a visit. I'm not sure if this is available in Binondo. Have not seen it there before.
