Re: Show your recent tool purchase/s ( The Tool/s Loot )

the best place to woodworking...wood and metal tools and the like is perhaps is in Saudi Arabia especially in Riyadh.

and automobiles too..good preservation in terms of rust prevention...yes it does rain there but very few and far between.

non humid dry heat.just perfect. no need for moisture meter.

no fungus to grow on mdf perhaps...no seasonal squeaking doors..

lets accept the fact that you can not have all the best things in life.

there is still no place like home.

happy easter braders.

Hmmm...

I have my photo gear stowed in a small humidity controlled box (kept between 40-50%). Maybe it's time now to kick out the camera gear for space for my handplanes? Ahhh...priorities are a bitch to decide.

Re: Show your recent tool purchase/s ( The Tool/s Loot )

our big concern really is the humidity in our country, one thing I know is never place your handplanes in a plywood bottom cabinet, I really don't know why but plywood seems to keep moisture and pass it onto the metal...

I would like to say something about this matter since what I have in mind just popped up !!!

Maybe this will work, if in case we have plywood bottom cabinets or drawers, maybe we could line those drawers or shelves with rubber mattings or some thick acrylic sheets then possibly soak a large piece of cloth in new motor oil, pull it up and squizzed out the excess oil, now we have a blanket we can use to cover or wrapped those precious tools of ours like these hand planes or chiesels, metal files and hand saws, extra circular blades and knives etc etc.

What do you think guys, is it possible and will it work for our precious tools ? 😉 😎

I did experience getting rust when I soaked a piece of metal on oil... the problem here was, unless the metal is clean and dry... a film of oil just don't cut it.
I tried wd40, castrol motor oil and singer oil on several of my fishing gears.... having them immaculately clean and dry before storing is the only way to prevent corrosion. even then there is no guarantee

Re: Show your recent tool purchase/s ( The Tool/s Loot )

I have tried all of them Guad, the Jojoba works best amongst the choices but still rust can get through (though less and longer before it does). I haven't tried the one from Boesheild though and I have come across another which maybe I will try in the future.

Been using the Boeshield (T-9) ... seems effective and much longer lasting than machine oil but ... it is a spray can (harder to control) and it leaves an obvious waxy film on the metal, somewhat like dried soap. Your tool may be well protected but it is no longer 'showroom quality' in appearance. This is for the 'heavy' method of application (spray and allow to dry). The light method (spray and wipe off) may not have this downside, but haven't tried it as I wanted to get money's worth.

BTW, anyone know good local source for dessicants? In quantities of ... not necessarily sacks of the thing, but more than the tiny packets that are usually included with products.

I was able to buy a box of dessicants in small packets at true value before. I forgot how much it costs. I think ace has them as well.

Darn!

When we installed some large pumps in a new plat, each huge pump came in crates with several sacks (perhaps 1/4liter in volume each) of dessicants. I game them all away to my photographer friends.

Will keep an eye out for the next plant.

Some late postings here, these two items came in I think March 15 or 17 and have forgotten about it and just stashed them in my tool room and just accidentally remembered this afternoon while getting some tools to be used for grinding and squaring of edges of some metal plates for the welding table build project.

Took some pictures before I started metalworking again !!!!

Finally got my four welding magnets, very timely for the current project.

Tested the welding magnet's accuracy on some scraps of 2" X 2" square tubings, well its accurate enough.

Those magnetic squares are cool. I wish wood can also be magnetized!

I also have that face mask and very happy with it. But my filters are not for spray painting, just for preventing inhallation of sawdust, so mine are those lage, circular, hot pink ones.

Re: Show your recent tool purchase/s ( The Tool/s Loot )

in an enclosed shop like mine, i maybe protected from the immediate dusts by those 3M masks but there are still fine dust particles floating around shop right after table sawing or miter sawing and settles not only on the tools below but also on my hair, shoulders and on the floor.

sino kaya mag prototype gumawa ng dust filtration system..gagayahin ko na nalng.

i need a big blower, i saw one at 10K, then a couple of 3M filtrete aircon filters.

some wires and turnbuckles

good morning!

Re: Show your recent tool purchase/s ( The Tool/s Loot )

Bro V !!!! AGING kamo ??? HAHAHAHA, I just hope its not but I think sometimes its probably yes coz there are some instances that when I'm metalworking at the garage and would need some other special tool to use, I would go up to my art studio to get that particular tool, because I keep other tools pa there in the shelves, anyway when I get to my studio I would suddenly have a memory lapse that I can't recall what tool will I get and would ask myself what tool ba am I suppose to get !!!! 😮 VERY BAD, haaaaaayyyyyyy

Well with regards to the Stanley Square, it was fairly very square enough, but maybe I'll just buy one starret square at Panda, if I remember right bro JayL mentioned about this square available at Panda. I just hope its also available at Panda, Araneta ave., mas malapit sa akin at madaling puntahan. Bro JayL, can you confirm this or I may just be wrong/mistaken !!!! How much is one kaya ??

TY :thanks:
