Sir, ok ba yung Meiji Step-Down Transformer? Meiji pala nakita kong branded. sa raon yata meron din pero mukhang cheapips!

Can you suggest a good locally available step down transformer Bro Willy. Something in the 3 to 5KVA range.

tks

I have been using a Meiji 5000watts since last year, I got it from ace when they had a sale. So far I haven't encountered any problems with it.

Bro JayL.

I am biased towards Philippine made transformers. That is one area where Philippine products excel. The brand Panther and other similar locally made transformers are ok. Just make sure that they carry a warranty. The length of coverage will speak of the manufacturers reputation initially. Also check the unit for humming or irregular voltage beyond the +/- 5% range when there is load. For imported units there is this guy in the popular ad site who goes by the name hqvhqv who sells a good transformer but his ad is too pricey. Here's his unit...

Here are his contact details but take note of his last update w/c was around July 25, 2012:

FOR SALE TRANSFORMERS FROM CALIFORNIA MAGNETICS CORP. CMC 1096

5.0 KVA SECONDARY OUTPUT

output:

120v @ 41.67A

240v @ 20.83A

09184699425

I have a similar coli type AVR stepdown transformer w/c I bought from Clark a few years back. That thing is out of this world. The unit hardly budges even w/ a high load tool or equipment. The cool thing is it's all coil and no electronics whatsoever. It's an old US Army surplus. The biggest unit i have now is a 7KVA step-down w/c was made in 1997 by VTE Transformer Enterprises, a local company, but i heard they have ceased operation sometime back in 2009. Good luck and keep me posted if you want a feedback on your potential find.:electricf::D

Thanks for the reply Bro Willy.

I sent an email to Meralco asking if they could hard wire a 110V supply. If not possible then I guess the only alternative would be a step down transformer.

Anytime JayL. I don't know if they still grant 110V services in the greater Metro or at least w/ new applications of that sort. I am fortunate to have those original 110V lines in my house from way back 1975. My shop is 220V lang so I had to get large transformers for my US equipment from way back in 1995. My early Craftsman, Porter & Cable, Black & Decker and Ryobi USA tools are now shelved. Now my Japanese 100V tools have replaced them. There are a number of good transformers for an entire household from 10-50 KVA at Electrical and industrial outlets in Manila. They range from 30K up if your lucky. Some of them are made in the US if that is your preference.:)

While we're on the subject, maybe you ought to check this ad at our favorite classifieds...

I have done business with this company. I bought my thermo controller from them and they have VFD's and stuff. They seem OK considering the unit i bought from them has worked 24hrs for 340 days in a year. No problems whatsoever. That was 3 years ago when i did business with them. The 2 units they advertised is a good price for 15KVA models. Maybe you and JayL could use them. They last signed in 3 days ago so the units must be available. This is a better offer than the 5KVA earlier discussed. What do you think? Here are their details:

Selling a 15kva step down transformer made by delta star mfg co.

input voltage; 220vac/230vac/240vac/250vac

output voltage: 220vac/110vac

Capacity: 15000voltampeares (15KVA)

for pick up only at sta mesa, manila

contact me; 09163677769 / 09212604649
available units; 2 units

He goes by the name OKNGARUD. :goodluck:

OK Bro I will do that.

I'm sick and tired of sloppy moving smaller chicom squares but I don't want to pay Mitutoyo or Starrett prices thus I went with Products Engineering.

http://www.productsengineering.com/squares/

I had reservations before but now that I have the tools I can say that these compare in quality to the Mitutoyo Squares I have.

Made in USA. 6" Combination, 6" and 4" Double Squares.

Special purchase through GJ. Brand New but some blem marks. However being a member there it was made sure that the tools I received did not have any scratch on the measurement markings itself.
