Stranded-wire end-ferrules
The three major ways to treat stranded-wire ends have been to:
- hand-twist the strands tightly together, as is commonly done here
- tin or solder the strands together
- bind the strands with a metal ferrule
The first retains the risk of fraying, which can lead to short circuits.
The second is time/labor consuming, as well as a health risk to the installer
The third is IIRC the EU standard for wire termination.
The shift to ferrules has largely been insurance-driven.

@Jay, Horge,

🙂
If it does the job, it does the job. That said...
Lekon, Crimp Fox, iWiss, CTM and a whole bunch of Chinese knockoffs (Knipex lookalikes)
abound. Rennsteig, however, is technically also Knipex.

Re: Show your recent tool purchase/s ( The Tool/s Loot )
Sorry, I don't know how to post pics. About 2 weeks ago, I bought few tools for the hobby including chop saw, circular saw, several clamps, measuring and marking tools, PPE's, electric planer, and a used aluminum van for storage.
My electric planer is AEG., I initially considered 710W Bosch 1082 or 580W Maktek 190. They cost the same at P4,100.00. Then my eyes caught AEG, a German brand, 750W of power, R&L ejection port with dust bag, and a precision rachet depth setting. At first I wondered why it is priced at a mere P4,500.00 with Germany clearly printed at its label where the 'Made in' is supposedly marked.
Later I learned that the AEG Germany was already gone but the brand name was bought by chinese Electrolux of TTI which also manufactures several brand names like Ridgid, Milwaukee, Ryobi, Homelite, Hoover, Dirt Devil, and Vax.
So, how does AEG planer perform. First, its dust bag is almost useless. Air flow is only about 50% as powerful as Bosch 1082. The ejection ports are also significantly smaller and easily clogged with dust/wood grains especially with planing against the grain to flatten wide boards. The motor is noisier than Maktec or Bosch, but has plenty of power that glides like a strong and sharp circular saw. The blades that I received though, is brandless and easilly dulled so I have to buy a new Tatara TCT blades after flattening few hard boards.
Depth setting is robust, the clicks are very nice to the ears but I don't know if this design has an advantage over the non-clicking Maktec or Bosch. What else? Ah, the power switch is not so nice to use, it is harder, it has a binding feel, it cracles, and quite tiring to the hands and fingers.
