Re: Show your tools in action

These painter's pyramids are really good .... much better than the shop made ones I have using screws.

Just a quick coat of sanding sealer.

Re: Show your tools in action

My Milton drill press has a run out of .08-~ 0.10 mm. Do you think upgrading the chuck will solve the problem?

checked from the chuck w/o belts

same as in the drill bit

will try to remove and reinstall the tapered chuck first and see if it improves.

I'll also re align the pulleys and replace belts if I find same size from the auto shop.

Re: Show your tools in action

^The runout will increase more when the quill goes down right? And that's when it matters, because that is when it meets the workpiece.

FWIW Sir JayL, Rohm chucks are made to .003" runout or about .08mm TIR. I guess there are better chucks out there but for mucho bucks. (The runout is on the 3 jaws moving in and out of the chuck shell. One can make it close to perfect on say, a 5mm drill bit but the runout will be different when different size bit is used!)

Re: Show your tools in action

Yes Owyn ... what you say is true.

I get different run out on different drill bit sizes.

My dilemma is if it's worth spending on this DP. In the end I might not even get what I'm after. Chisel has the same issue and wants to buy a new DP. Timber on the other hand says his Milton unit is doing fine.

Probably I'll just keep it for now and wait for a good upgrade opportunity like the one missed in sulit that you posted. Dang. Grrrr....

The Milton DP is good at it's price point ... it just does not meet the tolerance I'm after.

Those Rohm chucks look sleek .... I suspect that it would be more expensive or probably at par with the cost of the Milton DP ( 6.5K ).

Grabe 50K ...... but you're right. Japanese DPs will range between 35K up depending on size and model.
