Hi guys,
After a little googling on trying to construct my own styrofoam cutter, they say I need Nichrome wire as the heating element. Anybody know where I can get that kind of wire?
Re: Styrofoam cutter
Hardware stores used to carry this but the wire was already coiled. Sorry I'm not really sure if you can uncoil it and make it truly straight. To straighten it out try rolling it between two plates of glass, tiles, even wood might do.
There are companies that sell heating elements. Try the yellow pages under Heaters or maybe in the electrical section. I once bought a heater from this company in Caloocan. It was a long long time ago so I don't remember the name of the store, or exactly where it is to be honest.
You can use a light dimmer to control the heat if you need to. Just make sure it has the right power rating.
