Hey, i'm new here. Recently my parents sent me a black&decker drill from the US, i was wondering what to expect if i have it converted (by a proffesional electrician) from its original 120v to 220v.
I'm asking if i should be expected to buy some parts or if its just a matter of rewiring.

I know i could use a transformer but for convenience i'm thinking of having it converted because I hate to carry it (drill and transformer) around from one house to another.

thanks

You'll need to have the motor rewound to configure it for 220V. I don't know if has been done for a hand drill.

Probably will cost you almost the price of a locally available hand drill.

Re: What to expect converting 120v drill to 220v

Hey bro INNOMINATE,

If I were you, I'll just buy a transformer for that drill and simply stationed it in the shop. Then would just buy another good hand drill ( Makita, Bosch or DeWALT ) that is good for 220V/240V , then this is just what I will be carrying from one house to another. The 110v drill stays original as it is, to much trouble for me to have it converted and may even shorten the lifespan of the tool. Well that's just me !

Another factor here is that your parents might/may send you another 110V tool or whatever in the near future, so what will you do then, have it again converted ? not practical if I should say so.

Anyway good luck for whatever you decide on your tool/s. 😉

A little OT here !!

Since you are new in the forum, can you introduce yourself to us? We have a MEMBER INTRODUCTIONS, its just down the PHM index page !!

Thanks

agree with rosy.. just buy a 110v transformer. not that practical to convert it to 220v.

Di cya pwedeng i convert sa 220vac. Yung armature kasi nya naka design sa 110vac. So pati armature papalitan. Para ka na ring bumili ng bago if pako convert.
