Re: Wish list and existing tools

Wish list ... lets see ... a bandsaw, a new tablesaw, acetylene and oxygen tanks, table top metal lathe and milling machine, a melting furnace, TIG welding machine, a sanding/buffing station, more clamps, a set of Japanese chisels, a set of honing stones with a diamond dresser, a precision flat, carbide scraping tools, a radius cutter and a cutoff tool holder for my small lathe, a dovetail jig, maybe a spiral saw, a variable speed grinder, a rotary tool (dremel), a bigger workshop, a cement mixer.

Current tools ... too many :).

Re: Wish list and existing tools

Assuming 'wish' doesn't necessarily mean affordable:

E.C. Emmerich or Lie-Niesen or Veritas planes

Japanese saws, chisels, planes from Hida Tool
http://www.hidatool.com/
Look at the the prices of those planes! Any other good source for Japanese handtools besides Hida and Lee Valley?

Bamboo splitters such as from DTI CITC formerly NACIDA
Anyone have these? Who else sells these locally?

http://www.entrepreneur.com.ph/starterkit/article/how-to-make-bamboo-furniture

Drawknife

Big bodacious band saw
CNC machine
Laser cutter
Laser rangefinder, levels
Fab Lab or 3D printer

Re: Wish list and existing tools

Hmmm ... I'll have to get back to you on the lathe JayL. I don't seem to have a picture of it my PC. Here is a link to it's web page http://www.sherline.com/4000pg.htm . Mine is not actually branded Sherline but it is the same. Sherline used to OEM their products to others who put their own brand on them, examples are Sears, Jensen, etc. The great thing about these lathes is that up till now Sherline keeps upward compatibility so not only can I get spare parts I can even get upgrades.

My lathe is a bit too small for my use which is why I still have a lathe on my wish list.

Looking back at this post it feels like its been ages. I also realized i have been in this forum for half a year.

I have also pretty much almost completed all my woodworking tool wishlist 🙂 except for a wood lathe. The radial arm saw is becoming alot less needed.

Hopefully by the second half of this year i can go into welding.

Re: Wish list and existing tools

I talked with Edward(Panda) yesterday and we talked about the Jet tool line. they are considering bringing in lathe, jointer and a bandsaw for the local market. I convinced him to be a member here and i will start his thread for us to inquire and recommend. I particularly liked the bandsaw we were talking about. it can take a 1 blade, a throat capacity of 8 inches(which enough i believe for resawing) and maybe Germany made... price range is 30K(just an estimate)... hopefully he joins soon so we can talk straight to him more and discuss what we like.

That will surely be great. Also i dont know if they are willing to do another thing. Post their catalog on the forum. They can have the prices taken out so we will have to inquire for prices.

They already have a bandsaw but its only 80mm cutting depth. If i jump into making wooden clocks i might get this. 5k something.

I dont know if i mentioned this about Jet tools. It seems that the prices PANDA are selling their Jets , its almost exactly the same price as amazon US and UK. Hence it makes me feel that the item is priced just right. Unlike the more popular brands we have. Maybe they may bring in some some hybrid table saws, if their price point is the same it may even come out cheaper that their competitor's contractor saws.
