Re: Work. Don't Play.

G R A B E !!!! Grabe naman mga new tools mo bro ang gaganda, bro namakyaw ka yata ng METABO AH, hanep talaga !!!!!

But personally bro I prefer corded power tools than rechargebles, corded PTs gives out more power, constant power and they are a brute, pang harabas talaga. But of course that's only my personal choice.

CONGRATS to your new toys !!!

Thanks bro.

I'm with you on the corded tools. These are the better first line tool purchases ... at least from yours and mine's point of view.

WOW !!! Still very nice new toys from Moji and JayL.

Bro Jay, you know what, someday I would like to buy some air tools/power tools and really see and personally feel their power when in use.

In that case bro start hunting for a 60 to 80 gal 3 to 5 HP compressor. One can't really feel the true power of air tools unless these are driven according to their air specs requirement.

Re: Work. Don't Play.

Got no decent camera here JayL. Fwiw, here's the old metabo keyless chuck that came with the old spanish DP.

Sorry it's in an undignified state (will adress that right away) but the jaws aren't mangled, and grips real well. (This and the rohm leaves 3 sharp marks on shanks if one drills w/o any finesse i.e. no pilot holes, bearing down on the DP handle that the v-belt even slips. It's the nature of keyless- self tightens, grips more if the bit encounters resistance.) There's nothing wrong with it (aesthetics maybe,) it's been put to use in a school shop before i was born and it should still be working great after i'm no longer the owner. I think it suffered more for lack of use than work, getting rust on the shell.

The rohm has a nice black oxide finish, resistant but not impervous to the red rust. The old american jacobs on the right i couldn't use, later found out that a 5/8 X 16 thread is obsolete and couldn't find an arbor for it so easily >_<.

Re: Work. Don't Play.

Thanks for sharing Owyn.

The European chuck design is a bit different than the Jacobs.

The new Metabo chuck I have is self locking. Hand tightening plus a final turn click to lock. I wonder if that Metabo chuck you posted has that mechanism.

Re: Work. Don't Play.

i see...naitanong ko lang, kasi yung ridgid is lifetime service and parts warranty including yung battery, pag nasira battery or ayaw na mag charge, papalitan nila...

pero maganda pa din tools mo hehehe

Malamang hindi Oz. Pero yun battery alam ko 3 years replacement. If it doesn't charge you don't get charged.

Re: Work. Don't Play.

18V 6 1/2" Circular Saw .... will be used for cutting metals and wood

JayL, what does the manual say about using this saw to cut metal? Is it specifically allowed? recommended against? silent?

Unlike Makita or Bosch, I could not find the Metabo manual online, or any manufacturer description that sheds light on this. Only clue appears to be that the no-load speed is 2700/min, which is less than the cordless Bosch (3900/min), the cordless Makita (3700/min), and even the corded Evolution (3500/min, though 7.25").

However, I do not know 1) what the maximum speed is for a circular saw to be considered low enough for cutting metal; and 2) whether there are other design features besides speed that determine whether a saw can be used for metal. The Bosch wording below suggests that there are.

In comparison, the cordless Bosch manual says: "This tool is not recommended for usage with metal or masonry cut-off wheels. Do not cut metal or masonry with this circular saw. The dust from metal or masonry cutting will cause the lower guard to become sluggish and may not close fully and quickly after cutting these materials." (Emphasis in the manual.)

IIRC, the corded Bosch 7.25" has a similar warning.

The cordless Makita manual is silent on metal cutting.

Can you confirm that the cordless Metabo is designed to cut both wood and ferrous metal/mild steel. If so, that would seem to be a notable advantange over the competition.

Re: Work. Don't Play.

@ Guad

When I was looking for a new circular saw I had several criteria.

1. It must be able to cut Mild Steel Sheets 18 gauge up to 1/8" thick. I must be able to buy mild steel sheets and cut this as if I am cutting plywood.

2. It must be light weight and portable. i.e. I should be able to bring it to the metal store where I can cut my purchases according to my needs and to fit my vehicle if necessary.

3. It should be able to cut wood too.

4. Battery performance should be good enough to make the tool "really " useful.

The choice of blades was a no brainer. I had my mind set on Freud even before I searched for a CS.

I checked other brands but then I stumbled into this Metabo Cordless. All my criteria were met except for one shady portion. Criteria 1.

This machine is suitable for sawing wood , plastics and other similar materials. The user bears sole responsibility for damage caused by improper use.

Abrasive blade is a big No No in the manual.

My interpretation is that it will cut metal but if something happens then I am on my own. I studied the saw. It's mostlyl aluminum. It has a dust port which I can redirect in case there are some sparks. The rpm is lower ... more torque then means better for metal cutting. In view of this I pulled the trigger.

A few days ago I built a temporary sled for the CS from scrap wood.

I'm just observing the saw now. I knew I have other options but held back until I am satisfied with the saw's performance. I could have gotten an optional track for it but did not.

I tested the CS on metal using a Freud Steel Demon blade.

Re: Work. Don't Play.

Blade reload complete ....

Setup a cut ... 14 gauge mild steel sheet

I did several cuts and all went flawless ... no strain on the saw motor at all. Constant speed even under load. Blade stops immediately as soon as trigger is released. Minimal sparks. The sheet was cool to the touch.

Re: Work. Don't Play.

Front side chips eject by blade

14 gauge sheets are not a difficult cut. Will I cut up to 1/8" plate? Yes I will. It's what I need the saw for. If something happens to it or if the tool does not last long as it should then I know I've been warned by Metabo.

The saw is equipped with electronic overload protection. Standard on most if not all Metabo Tools. If the blade binds then it switches off automatically. Warning beeps stop after 30 seconds or when the trigger is released.

Re: Work. Don't Play.

Ayan na yun 14 gauge sheet na pinutol ng CS. Dyan ko lang pala gagamitin LOL.

Cutting Disc

I seldom fire the electric grinders now a days for quickie quickie jobs. Usually the 2 batteries I have are enough. More often than not the other one is already fully charged even before I run out of juice.

Grinding Disc .... I just wished the grinder has the Quick Change option ... more convenient but not a deal breaker.

These high capacity Metabo batteries are really great ... is it just me or what ... I feel they become better after the initial charges. I don't know if LiON batteries have break in periods.
