Im planning on making a sportsbar for my bike. The stock bar really ruins the stance and handling of the bike. i have drawn up some plans and made a lot of measurements already. But no matter how i designed it there is one thing that must be done. -- I have to cut and slice my windshield.

Well, Im not about to mess up my stock windshield. Aside from it not available locally, it is unreasonably expensive if i will get if from abroad. My only option is to make my own windshield out of acrylic.

So before i could go on with my sportsbar project i have to do this project first- Acrylic Windscreen.

Re: Make your own windscreen.

I think the most dragging part will be making a forming mold that I can use to shape the plexi(acrylic)
sheet, preferably without destroying the existing shield in the process.

Here is the original windscreen, masking the surface with tape.

Re: Make your own windscreen.

To contain the wet plaster of paris while it dries.
I used the cardboard box i found in the garbage to create side dams.

Re: Make your own windscreen.

Just make sure when the plaster dries you will have no hard time releasing the model by checking if the sides will lock.

Taping the sides and crevices where the plaster might creep in.

Hi BENQ,

I used to do a lot of fiberglass, acrylic and silicone molds for my past bike repairs. I did a lot of reconstruction for my big bike and for some of my friends who figured in crashes unimaginable. I use a material called ALGINATE to act as a primer mold for my Casting mold to safe guard my Original Model avoiding scratches and mishaps. With the casting mold I use a material called Cast Stone w/c is a Gypsum based, mid - density material stronger than plaster. You may also use Die Stone should the need for your casting mold be subjected to extreme heat like ovens or furnaces. between molds and casts an ideal separating media is used like Paraffin wax or an oil based wax used by dental technicians in denture casts. Nice Bike Bro, I'm a KAWASAKI rider too. I kinda miss my riding days. Sayang i can't ride anymore for health reasons but Bikes like yours still grow on me.:chopper:

Re: Make your own windscreen.

There are tape marks on the plaster, but im just ignoring those cus once i started forming, the acrylic will be too thick and stiff to trace those marks.

Re: Make your own windscreen.

I traced the actual shape and size with a newspaper contoured on the original piece to get the flat dimension on the plexiglass.
