some pretty well s4s KD tanguile came my way today

for my brother's 8 seater breakfast table. Making it for him as a house warming gift

i was lucky the 4x4 is exactly 90mm just enough for my miter saw

cut the legs

these stocks are too long to run through my TS sled.. hence hand cut it is!!

made four tenon using a dovetail saw... i had to wax it after a few cuts.

my arm is aching right now hehhehe

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

The long side of the table is 96 inches long... too long for me to position properly for a handsaw cut.

Hence i use a straight quide and a bottom clearing bit on my GMR1

i believe i have the same mortising kit as Timber. Here it is in action

this was rushed hence the less than perfect mortise. But it will work for me

i will also be pinning the tenons with dowels anyway

sinukat ko uli eh... parang alanganin πŸ™ width is 120cm and length is... 96"

The other option is to transport it the way the cavemen would. By FOOT! its a one kilometer walk to my bro's house.. hahahahah

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

Think of it as an oppurtunity to exercise hahaha. :p Also carrying it would add history to the finished table. Something to talk about through generation. But mind you it is not an easy task. The first few steps are easy, it gets harder as you gain distance. Carry it if you are really into it. Have fun.

SaintMaker

oo nga no.. something to talk about. πŸ™‚

I realized mahirap din if assemble on location. I will have to stain and finish pa. I will assemble it at my workshop and figure out how many abled bodies will it take to deliver the table buwahahaha πŸ™‚

The tenon mortise joints fit ok. but some are perfectly flushed sa legs and some are not. grrrr

so i will have to rout some grooves to hide that aspect of imperfection.

this build is actually exciting because it is the largest one yet.

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

I remember those naglalako ng papag. they got their merchandise on their shoulder (literally) and going around the block selling them. if they are exhausted they just lay down on the papag that they are selling.:p

What table top wood will you be using for that breakfast table?

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

i will just be using 1 inch thick tanguile for the table top. i am still pondering if i should put an artificial grain using some grain maker thingy with stain. hmmmm

medyo boring kasi yung table. its really simple, I may try inlaying (or false inlaying) or rout some grooves on the side and legs. Just to add some points of interest

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

did some partial assembly of the frame today. the joints are pinned tenon-mortise. used a 8mm diameter dowel from Hafele. Its proud now and actually looks nice

Will decide later if i will cut it flush or leave it be.

Oh and since i pinned them with dowels, i didnt clamp them anymore. i couldnt clamp them anyway since i dont have a big enough clamp

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

Very nice touch. I also thought of something like that but using brass rods as dowels instead. Well, that's just a plan for now.

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

What’s in the name? What does β€œdrawbored” mean?

It means that this mortise and tenon joint has a hole bored through both the mortise and tenon pieces, offset just enough that it draws the joint dead tight when a peg is driven into it.
