Re: 8 seater breakfast table

try mo ben, 1/2 BLO, 1 mineral spirit, 1 poly ratio. brush on, wipe on, all in 1 finish.multiple coats ben. you might like it, very easy to perform...try mo muna sa scrap since you have BLO. . and timber is right, ang alam ko kasi water base are good if you use it through spray. suggestion lang bro...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! btw paturo naman dyan how to create a thread, ang tagal na sa forum di pa marunong mag create ng thread, hahaha!

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

cool thanks jonathan, i will try that. The poly is essential kasi dining table.

I suspect mga 6 coats in order to build up enough protection.

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

while the mixture jonathan gave would be ok, it only works if everythiing is oil based. can't mix oil and water and have a working wipe-on varnish.

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

finally progress,

Here is the table, religiously sanded from 80 - 120 - 180 with the bosch ROS then hand sanded with a 240

My brother wanted it to be a little redder. At the point where he saw the table there is an amber tone due to 4 coats of wipe on poly.

So for the red I decided to pour a few ml of KONIG red mahogany stain to the wiping varnish. To those of you who havent tried konig yet. It is NOT your standard stain like boysen or ace stains. Those stains are normally runny and thin. This one is a little more... pasty. in fact it is a very heavy color. Hence a few ml of this on the remaining wiping varnish i had should be enough

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

This uniform shade was achieved after two coats of wiping varnish with stain mixed in.

Since i dont wipe off excess, the color did build up in those two coats. From the way it is, ill stop the varnish with stain right here.

Result was much much better than what i expected. Now all it needs is another 4 coats of wiping varnish and it should be ready for delivery.

And finally free up the car port. This is the FIRST project where i took the time and all the steps to finish it since its not mine 🙂 hehehe I think that attitude is the same for most of us here. We take extra effort for projects we give instead of the ones we use.

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

Very nice Ben, it would be a shame to put even a glass on that finish. Great work!

in future projects, id want to make use of a videocam to document everything from start to finish and give a copy of the cd as well...hehe

and finally...it is done.

the wipe on poly i hope will last.

pero for sure lifetime guarantee pa for scratches and dents to be made very soon by your nephews! hehe
