Re: 8 seater breakfast table

Thanks guys,

As for the grooves... gamit nalang sila ng brush for it 🙂

I am tempted to brush on a heavy coat of poly then sand a bit then do wipe on for the last coat for a uniform sheen. But Marc Spagnuolo of the Wood Whisperer uses wipe ons for almost ALL his projects, even for table tops.

I would brush on PYE poly if it only had satin instead of gloss. I still have problems brushing ZAR poly. Basically i just hate brushing

I know what Timber will say... SPRAY NA!!!

Awesome project!!!...simple design but looks elegant.
My jonathancruz68-inspired coffee table is temporarily on hold due to the ongoing australian open matches. Hi bee, did i see a shopmade granil (marking gauge) on one of those earlier pics? Looks very familiar kasi ;~)

Congrats on this project!

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

Thanks Armand and Ossie,

ah yes the shopmade marking guage. i think its in the second pic. I did make thread with that 🙂 was made with maple very table hard wood

hmmm i just reaized i need to let the poly cure for 2 weeks before it gets used. So baka hindi maka ahead of schedule..hmmm

There is a little noticeable red shade variance in some of the boards. I am hoping that as i apply 4 more coats of poly the amberish tone will nullify that.

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

nice job bee, the poly finished of my coffee table project has fully cured, it's been 3 weeks na after final coat, eto na kasi ang nakakaasar sa lahat,
nakalimutan ( o nakatamaran ) na balikan yung previous proj, because of the on going project, pero promise ko sa table na i rub-off ko sya later, hehehe....ganda ng finish, another additional ideas on finishing projects... congrats!!!

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

finally progress,

Here is the table, religiously sanded from 80 - 120 - 180 with the bosch ROS then hand sanded with a 240

My brother wanted it to be a little redder. At the point where he saw the table there is an amber tone due to 4 coats of wipe on poly.

So for the red I decided to pour a few ml of KONIG red mahogany stain to the wiping varnish. To those of you who havent tried konig yet. It is NOT your standard stain like boysen or ace stains. Those stains are normally runny and thin. This one is a little more... pasty. in fact it is a very heavy color. Hence a few ml of this on the remaining wiping varnish i had should be enough

Galing, from the bottom pic it looks like narra. Good to see that you had good results with the Konig brand stain. I had difficulty in using it, although i used wenge which i think is really a difficult stain to get correct.

Re: 8 seater breakfast table

there a few nibs and rough areas and like i said earlier may obvious uneven stain dahil sa strokes ko (nag terterminate ako halfway down the board instead of one long full stroke with the pad)

i just sanded this with 1,500 grit... makes the top nice and smooth without eating into the coats.

I really shouldve made our own formal dining!!! grabe cost nito wala pang 1/4 ng formal dining namin!

the following 4 coats of wipe on poly has a very very slight red mahogany stain na nakahalo din. This should even out the shade.

Normal wood like this tanguile from Timberco can look real nice if surface prep is done correctly.

I am still giddy with excitement whenever i think of the bosch ROS... ganda talaga.
