Re: A new workbench build...

Bro Jay, hindi pwedeng lagyan ng wheel castesr yan kasi pag nag katam ng wood stock, pag tulak mo ng katam, iiwanan ka ng work bench, LOL LOL.

If them casters are locked and secured, still there will be some movements maybe from side to side or forward and backwards. Well that is how I would envision it.

I have limited shop space so I will need to be able to move a workbench easily. Probably bro it can be designed in a way that the wheels retract back up when not in use. When fully loaded with drawers and tools the workbench can be very heavy.

Re: A new workbench build...

there is a way to lift the casters on one side and the other side has a very low profile but doesn't work well on uneven floors. why not dedicate a small area for ww and keep the wb there fixed. not really much need to be moving from one place to another not like a welding cart.

Re: A new workbench build...

Just thinking out loud .... How come most of the wood work benches I see are built w/o casters? Is it just me or am I missing something here?

Thanks

I just finished building my first work bench and I did put casters in it. it took me almost a year. paminsan-minsan ko lang kasi magawa. I put caster because I need to move it from my storage location when not in use for wood work then move it in the garage during woodwork because of the dust. I use footmaster casters.

Re: A new workbench build...

i am not familiar with footmaster casters..any link or pic bro?

when i see wb with casters, they are more like assembly table for me..

unless those casters can retract.

my wb must be 200kgs.

and i miss it.

Those were the casters you previously mentioned here (post #6), right?

One thing interesting in the spec that you cited is the difference in load capacity vs. recommended load. 750 kg/caster vs. 1500 kg per set of 4 (375 kg/caster) . Always wondered what the safety factor should be and it looks like 50%, at least from this manufacturer.

Now, when a locally available caster like Hafele or Creston, etc. claims '100 kg', we don't know whether that is the capacity or the recommended load. To be conservative and assuming usual marketing behavior, we would assume that that is the capacity and take the max recommended load to be ~50 kg, no?

Just roughly estimating ... with four '100 kg' casters at 50% loading, max recommended workbench weight would be ~200 kg, which means it could be built using up to ~30 pieces of 2 x 4 x 8 assuming 500 kg/cu.m wood. (The local mahogany I got seems to be ~400.) 20 pieces for a 4" thick 2 x 8 top and remaining 10 pieces for legs/stretchers.
