someone commissioned me to make him a speaker stand for his Contour 1.8MKII speakers (those are very nice speaks, I can't afford one though). after several conversation, he decided he wanted a solid block of wood that would fit his speakers. so block of wood it is. but... I don't have a piece that would make 8"x8"x11 5/8", he suggested that we can glue together several pieces to make it available. so I oblige...
from two planks of Mahogany, I cut to rough length...
flattened one side before it passes the thicknesser.
the hungry machine waiting for food...
well it feed well and the boards came out nice and parallel...

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand
and since the pores are not fully sealed yet, some portions still suck up the poly. several coats more should cure that (will apply another coat bukas) here it is again dry to the touch na(4 hours later)...

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand
Wow. looks real nice. Must be at least 10 kilograms each Timb?
Re: A Simple Speaker Stand
haven't weighed it yet, but I don't think it reaches that weight. applied second coat of poly today, got a bit carried away that it started to sag...
oh well, will just have to wait for it to dry before I sand it down flat, but on the bright side, it gets a good thick coat...

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand
Probably you're busy again talking on the phone while sanding :p
Kidding aside, that's no problem for your finishing prowess. More time for Lota before it gets envy with Asturo 😉
Re: A Simple Speaker Stand

Good opportunity there to compute the actual density of that mahogany.
Supposedly, it is somewhere between 500-850 kg/cu.m. If actual density is at high end of this range, then it should indeed be around 10 kg, given the 8x8x11-5/8" size mentioned.
