Re: A Simple Speaker Stand

Good opportunity there to compute the actual density of that mahogany.

Supposedly, it is somewhere between 500-850 kg/cu.m. If actual density is at high end of this range, then it should indeed be around 10 kg, given the 8x8x11-5/8" size mentioned.

Thanks Bro. Was just curious and approximating.
How'd you come about with the figures?

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand

Which figures, the density range or the estimated weight? If latter, that is just density (kg/cu.m) x volume (cu.m).

volume = (8 x 8 x (11 + 5/8)) x (0.0254 ^ 3) = 0.0122 cu.m
500 x volume = 6.1 kg
850 x volume = 10.4 kg

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand

well, since I had the tubes in my possession. I think it is time I start making stands for myself.
not much pictures, just 3/4" plywood and a mahogany block for feet...

the feet has a rebate that fits into the leg very tightly. it will be filled with lead shots and sand to make it heavy and stable... I reckon, it should weigh around 10kls or more each.

Glad you approve...
I wanted the shape of the (B&W) CDM1 to resonate to the stand hence the profile. made the plate for the speaker to mount today...
rabbeted the sides for a tight fit when closed.

angled the lower portion for a smaller profile.

and mounted the speaker.

I like the fit (of course its custom made)

mounted both and played some songs I know well.

well.... I now know that I have plenty to learn about this hobby. It made the music much better, cleaner and gave it soundstage. must be due to the correct height, wider placement, farther from the wall or something else. all I know is I'm glad I decided to make them. oh well, they're not done yet, filling, sanding and finishing still ahead. but this time I move with more gusto 😀

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand

got the stands sprayed with 3 coats of wb satin poly...

gotta love the drying time of wb (water base)...

dries so fast that I was able to bring it home alredy and mount my speakers...

the bad thing lang is, Cherry finish pala yung speakers and not red mahogany... 😀 , but it works as I need it to work, so I'm not complaining...

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand

been reading on Harbeth speaker stands and everything boils down to decoupling...
well here are two badly taken pictures of what I am trying to make to match my rack

and at the same time tackle decoupling the speaker from the stands...

testing on what it would more or less look like once completed, I mount a makeshift box...

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand

Hi Timber, What decoupling approach do you intend to implement on your speakers?
