Re: A Simple Speaker Stand
My works are invited to be used for the coming HiFi show, among them is my open type speaker stand. I do find it a bit on the bulky side. I thought if lots will see it, they might as well see a better looking, better sounding stand. Hence a revision is in order...
then at the same time someone asked me to build him for his incoming speaker...
Maple was the wood choice, got rough pieces, paid to have them flattened one side on their jointer.
from there I started milling and squaring the boards until I got the dimensions I needed.
test fitting until the desired fit was achieved

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand
bored the hole for the locking screws.
and cutting the slots for the middle pieces.
glued the pieces together.
and tested the locking screws if it held weight... it does.

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand
some updates, pls excuse the phone pictures.
had a long productive day today, made the mortice and tenon joints for my revised stands and started the glue up making sure everything is square.
also started making another LP box...
and reconfigured the dovetail spacing.
applied the first 6 coats of shellac on these stands and made the top.

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand
funny, but among the things I did today, these tops were the ones that gave me a hard time. the material kept bowing, took me several minutes handplaning it to level, drilled the screw mounts and should be ready for fitting bukas.

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand
Won't that top piece move again since it kept on bowing before you planed it?

In fact it already did :bee:but I think once it gets screwed in place it should flatten back. Already consulted using MDF already and approval was given naman.

How about a 2-layer laminate of solid wood, with the grains perpendicular? Parang 2-layer na plywood. Is that feasible with this dimensions?
Re: A Simple Speaker Stand
one side needs to be straightened.
from there it gets cut in two... these will serve as the base of the stands.
then I routed the spacing to give it some depth. it did come out very nice.
earlier, the owner suggested we stain the wood to a darker shade. So I tested the color on a scrap piece and it came out nice... then it happened. after glazing one stand, the result was not to my liking. Dang. looked dirty.

Re: A Simple Speaker Stand
I had to let it dry and scrape and handplane and sanded it off. some still left but very minimal.
Decided to leave the grooves stained instead and they do seem to my liking (of course the owner has the last say)
and the other stand with the grooves and no stain to choose from.
