Here is my 5th project since getting serious with woodworking for almost a year now. I still consider this as a pratice project since nothing is fancy with it. The table top is Acacia wood that i got in batangas while the legs and stretchers are reclaimed tanguile from Policarpio in Taytay (the famous Benjie Reyes also sources most of his woods here). Joineries are manual mortise and tenon as usual.

Re: A very simple Coffee Table

@timber: about 4 coats of stain (boysen walnut mixed with bronco red mahogany) coz i wanted a dark red color sana but it turned out differently (no trace of the red mahogany), followed by sanding sealer and poly varnish as topcoat.

@jonathan: sayang your BLO was really a bit late, it could have been a much better result.

Saw the coffee table first hand. Fine work.

Armand even used his home-made Kreg jig!
i wanted a dark red color sana but it turned out differently
Armand, i had a nice experience with Ace red mahogany when i was finishing the legs of my router table (gmelina). The legs came out really dark red after just two coats and the red brown hue was further enhanced by PU. That is why i bought 3 quarts more.

Nice clean looking table. Is the table top a one piece slab of acacia?

Again, amazed by your DIY belt sander.

Thanks Doc for the dark red finish tip...yes the top is one-piece acacia from this slabs.

original thickness was 1 1/2"..cupped!!!...took me 4 days of planing it both sides to flatten it to 1 inch using my electric handplane and stanley #4.

Balarila (Ding) was equally amazed when he saw the belt sander last night..he came with his swmbo to see my Chinawese TS.

Hi Armand,

Sorry if I squeeze in my question here. I heard so much about that Chinawese table and how happy you are with it. I really need to get a TS but I cannot afford most of those mentioned here. But I need a TS that has a riving knife (RK). You kept on alluding to a splinter on your TS in another thread but you also mentioned that your splinter moves diagonally in reference to the blade when you make bevel cuts. If your splinter moves in relation to the blade, doesn't that make your splinter an RK afterall? Does your "splinter" lowers when you lower the blade?

Thanks in advance for your clarification.
