Re: Another Audio Bench...
here is where I left off yesterday.
cleaned the leg materials, rounded the corners and gave it its first 10 coats...
after another 10 more coats...
and then another 10 more.
then I move to the top. this is the hard part. although it looks good and finishes easy, getting it even isn't.

Re: Another Audio Bench...
I flatten the finish between coats with a SIA sanding pad.
after two hours and a sore arm, well two arms and 20 coats of shellac. this comes out.
I think the top will be fine after another 20 more...:eek:

Re: Another Audio Bench...
Me, too. I am interested what that SIA pad is. Is it simply an abrasive pad with a foam backing or is there something special on the abrasive?
I don't have your patience in sanding. Is there a power-tool way to do this?
Re: Another Audio Bench...
If I may, SIA is a Swedish abrasive company acquired by Bosch last 2008.

Re: Another Audio Bench...
started the day by getting all the hardware I need.
one of them are the leg levelers (a requirement for turntablists). and while I understand the necessity for them, I prefer they stay out of view, Hence I decided to drill enough for them not to be visible.
the lower hole is where the t-nut will be installed.
then the leveler is threaded in.

which can be raised or lowered as needed.
and as I intended, it is still out of view.

Re: Another Audio Bench...
then one by one I check the shelf level against each other...
they were spot on, which makes me happy that wants me to show off some more...

I believe the correct term is French Polish or others also call it Piano finish.
but car by another name is still a car, so mirror finish would be fine 😀
