Finally got to work FULLTIME with teak. It smells nice, reminds me of haw flakes from those chinese confectionery stores.

thicknessed and jointed from rough lumber... i hate bows, at least no twists. These proved to be a little less than i needed

made these from the crosscut sled on the jimmy jig . These arent tenons. These will hold miter joints. I regretted doing this. These are the legs, i shouldve made the top braces half lap joints instead. its just more structurally sound and practical than what i i did.. oh well

gluing teak isnt easy, you need to use fasteners as butt joints WONT hold very well since its really oily and its hard for the glue to set in.

precision isnt one of my traits in woodworking.... as long as it works!
I ended up pegging all of the joints with dowels from Hafele. Contacted them today hopefully they will be willing to do a seminar (ehheh Sorry Timber for the slow move on my part)

Re: aquarium cabinet from teak and narra

assembling it all together. I did not have a design in mind when i was making this. so i wasnt sure how good or horrible it will turn out.

prepped two drawer faces from a salvaged 3 cm narra plank. it was really rough but squared on.. so it was no problem

trying to visualize what look to give

gave the yellow narra drawer faces some staining. used Konig 1 part wenge (BLACK!!) and 5 or 6 parts brown mahogany and i think 2 parts thinner. Konig stains are quite good, really thick hence i had to thin them. the brown mahogany has some reddishness in it. i wanted to el;imate it with the wenge mix to contrast with the natural red narra handles which were dabbed with linseed oil

I wish i had the same materials as your aquarium! I would also like a planted tank in the future. Its just maintenance intensive. Goodluck!

Re: aquarium cabinet from teak and narra

Thanks Moji

actually my setup is low light no co2. so its slow on the get go but once its established you can leave it as is with only once a week care (similar with non planted ones)

i listened to the swmbo hence i did some color change

glazed the narra door face and the teak frame with the same stain. to give a darker more even color.... came out quite nice.

Re: aquarium cabinet from teak and narra

the lower lip portion with the two accent pieces where the grain orientation is vertical.. I like it. Its there because of a mistake

I cut the REAL lip 10 cm shorter! misread the tape measure haha

The narra pieces are free 🙂 salvaged from the in laws the teak isnt ... but i am afraid i did not do the teak justice. I shouldve just used 2x4 tanguile for the frame
