This will be my next project and hopefully become my signature box. All future box projects will be patterned to this. It will be an easy task for my DIY-TS and the joinery will be easy too. The next step is to find the right woods with contrasting colors to combine in the box. Took me 2 hours to accomplish this drawing in Sketchup.

I will post pics during the build.

Re: My 3rd project

Armand, pls try to title your post not by number so people can easily know what it is. better also for those searching...
also, try to change the picture size so others can read your post, napuputol kasi and cannot be scrolled.
it is a nice looking box, looking forward to the actual build...
cheers.

p.s. will change the title for you now as Armand's signature box...

Re: Armand's signature box

The finished box project. Took me so long to accomplish this box, failed twice due to faulty shopmade table saw. The first two boxes with my hardwoods went to scraps. Finally success came using cheap palochina.

Re: Armand's signature box

Original plan was to use these woods. Camachile on the left, Badlangon in the middle (red, very hard and heavy wood), and Acacia at right.

I also made a wooden vise out of necessity, shown here still uninstalled (waiting for the real workbench).

Re: Armand's signature box

Nice jig and nice miter saw. i'm thinking of buying a second hand one like yours. is it advisable to buy a second hand? price is very tempting almost half of the brand new.

"Using shopmade box jig during assembly."

-Butt jointed lang ba lahat ng coners armand?

Camachile is so dense and so is kaymito (star apple)..

Sayang a hundred year old kaymito was felled two weeks ago inside my lola's property in nueva ecija and they sold it for just 2K! i was not informed though.

Re: Armand's signature box

Hey Doc V. hope you recuperate sooner than later. when possible, try your hand at carving. slow easy work lang. no rush is needed. at least hindi ka nababato sitting in your room looking at the stash of wood you have there... 😀

what can I say, the jigs and clamps alone require skills and imagination. the build is in the fine woodworking category...

Re: Armand's signature box

the sides of the box pictured above can be duplicated using gmelina..the flecks or suns rays like that of oak are basically present in gmelina stocks in my observation.but this will not be revealed by simply wetting the boards..those rays will come out when some clear finish has been applied like clear polyurethane.

for the corner posts, we can make use of kamagong.

the cover...i dont know...most of our hardwoods are dark in color...

maybe guijo or dao..

langka is also lighter in color being yellow when freshly cut then turns whiter when dried..the grains will pop out again when stained...example...mahogany stain.

or we can just stain the gmelina for the top...

Re: Armand's signature box

below is a gmelina already stained...the flecks are rather thin in this stock by the way.
