Akala ko dati Morris Chair lang target mo bro. Yun pala Sala Set ... LOL. 🙂

Looking forward to the finished products.

I was thinking about the pre finishing Timber mentioned. Looks like it's a real good idea. Hilamos na lang after assembly. Hehehehe but kidding aside .... is there a major drawback using this technique?

drawback is you have to be super careful gluing and handling parts. prefinishing leaves you with assembly na lang. punas na lang after glue-up yun.
also, glue clean up is done during the gluing and not allowing it to dry. scraping is not an option in this case.
the biggest advantage is that every part is covered properly and equally with finish, pati singit:shocked2:

Exactly bro ... PULIDO. Any tools that can help make things easier ... maybe soft face clamps. Are there differences in these Soft Faces? Maybe one will be better than the other. IIRC I saw some soft face accessories for Pony Pipe Clamps.

Probably lots of these painter pyramids. I have a few and have noticed big improvement over the home made ones ( screws ) that I used.

Re: arts and craft style sofa ( morris chair longer version )

Might look like a waste at first, but the nice thing about that shape is that if the two angled cuts per plank are parallel and done well (or if not, then cleaned up), the two resulting unused pieces can be glued together like a scarf joint and be reincarnated as a 2 x 3 or so.

Yakal and guijo are the cheapest of the salvaged, supposedly nail-free hardwoods available at Policarpio, priced at P70-80/bft (depending on width). If new yakal is P200/bft at Wilcon, I wonder if there is an opportunity somewhere there for anyone with the equipment and time...

If you are into buying from Wilcon Balintawak, there was also 2 x 12 x 4 laminated mahogany at P95/bft. I don't know if it is 'real' mahogany though, or what the difference is between real and non-real mahogany.

actually i used the excess cuts for the back seat slats, but you cannot really go away with some wasted pieces...

my eyes are glued actually to tha yakal wood, right from my first morris chair project, i thought this wood would be perfect for my project.
everytime i visit wilcon balintawak, yung yakal lang hinahanap ko, if there's anything left maybe warped, crooked, or cupped nalang ito... :jawdrop:

:thanks:

Re: arts and craft style sofa ( morris chair longer version )

jayL,

oo nga sala set na nga talaga, napalaban na eh...:D

about the pre-finishing before assembly, actually i have done it on the coffee table project, but those are lighter project, i really did the pre-finishing before assembly, and the result was amazing,
and TIMBER was right, every part was covered properly, equally, and easily, pati talaga kasignit singitan :moon:...

pero dito sa project na ito ( yakal wood ), i'm afraid that i might damaged the finish during assembly,
considering the weight...

i guess the best finishing technique with this project is with the use of "spray gun"... :harp:

Re: arts and craft style sofa ( morris chair longer version )

this is my current WIP, sorry for the snail pace flow of the project, very busy lang talaga...

suppose to be posted yesterday, kaso may problem sa photo bucket.
anyway....
i am preparing a wood framework for the seat cushion, joining the parts with m/t (mortise and tenon) joints .i made the lenght and depth of the frame 1/4 undersize to allow room for the upholstery to be wrapped around the sides and stapled at the bottom.

preparing the tenon cheeks...

and then the tenon shoulder...

i found this japanese saw of very good help in doing this small task...
