Re: Baby Crib WIP

Re: Baby Crib WIP

haha :DDocV that's the most appropriate title for this crib. This is so far my most expensive project. SWMBO is computing the total cost of all the tools I bought and charged it to this WIP. Not yet done though, the crib drawer and application of varnish is still a WIP.

SWMBO told me to finish the table thats been a WIP for almost 2 months. But its very likely that the feeding table will be next in line . I want to build the router table as well, just cant find time

Re: Baby Crib WIP

Hi Camv,

Nice crib! 🙂 not sure if you have or anyone's told you about the possible dangers of treated lumber.
I made a crib (by far not as good as yours :)) and used some matimco treated pine in the head boards. I believe it was Guad or somebody else that alerted me with treated wood voc's and babies.

Upon talking to a Matimco technical expert, the wood is ok as long as i seal it properly. Those treated wood for OUTDOOR rating , especially for blow ground use , has a very toxic cocktail of wood preserves, if you were to make a vegetable patch and use the treated lumber as the perimeter, it will kill the plants.

Anyway, its good to know what sort of chem the wood was treated with.

Cheers
Ben

oh by the way, nice toys!

Re: Baby Crib WIP

@ ben,

Thanks for raising that concern. Balarila also raised a related issue, I've done some research also about health effects of wood preservatives & VOC's and taking some precautions to avoid my baby's exposure to VOC's and other potentially toxic chemicals.

I've done 7 coatings of poly just to make sure the wood is sealed.
SWMBO happens to use scraps of this treated pinewood as fences on our pocket garden so I will be observing the effects on plants.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it.:thanks:

Re: Baby Crib WIP

Yes the tray is height adjustable. I'll be putting a drawer on the bottom part also.

For my 1st baby, due in 2 weeks time! so my excitement is building up.

The FMT jig is fun to use:). I'll post a review after completing this WIP
