I;m trying to make a bed frame, 54"x78".

Just had a lumber run with timber this afternoon.

Re: Bed Frame WIP

@bigfoot2, what type of wood? And what do you look for when choosing the lumber?

I'll also be building a bed frame in the hopefully not too distant future. Naiinip na si SWMBO. :p

Wood is expensive too but looks like the ones you got are of good quality and uniform sizes. 🙂

Re: Bed Frame WIP

I don't know the wood specie, but Timb and I went to choose them ourselves in the lumberyard. We chose based on straightness, grain pattern, absence of nicks and relative weight of the wood. I really appreciate Timbers help on this.

It's also my first time to test the wood carrying capacity of the Innova. 🙂

@Moji , Joey

Looks like a bed frame is in demand these days. Start your WIPs na.

I'm trying to get this WIP done to have an excuse to get a TS or RT for future WIPs.

Re: Bed Frame WIP

Here's an update:

Rough cut the legs and started handplaning. It will be 2 2x4's laminated together per leg.

I'm really a newbie at this, so it took me up to the 3rd leg before I get the groove at handplaning, still getting the hang of it. By the time I finished the 4th leg, I went back to the first 2 to try to salvage what I can.

I guess my next WIP should be a workbench.

Re: Bed Frame WIP

nice start brader, but kindly resize the pictures to 640x480pixels. you can do that in photobucket if you cannot see the edit button anymore.
do you have a working drawing for it brader? just want to know kasi if your headboard will be part of the legs...

Re: Bed Frame WIP

I'm still undecided on the headboard so I will do without it for now. I'll find a way to add it later on.

Re: Bed Frame WIP

I just suggest you do make a plan (which is a very good practice to get use to), especially if this is the first time you are making a bed or any project. it prevents unnecessary waste and will tell you how long or wide you need it to be to fit the bed on it... I do trust that you can work around it though. we're watching...:D

"Having no plan is plan" . . . .No joke lang.

I'm still feeling the dimensions of the lumber, since our lumber is not up to specs.

As for waste, having me touch the wood/lumber and doing the project is the biggest waste already. :p

Overall, I think the level of difficulty of this WIP is fairly low since I will be using some bed supports from Hafele. Only the headboard is still stumping me since I'm still undecided on the level of difficulty I want to tackle the headboard.

Re: Bed Frame WIP

definitely the Hafele fixtures will simplify your build, but make sure you get the fixtures before cutting some more 😉
