Re: Building boxes... post yours too
sorry shortcut wips...i use a "deep penetrating" body oil by Neutrogena. It works!
the glass trays (40p, japan surplus store) have a golden rim to match the golden hue of of the oil on the wood.
now the cover has a fancy handle made on the scrollsaw.

What water based poly do you plan to use?
Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

Re: Building boxes... post yours too
Here's my entry for this thread as the sun allowed me to work in my shop since yesterday. A piece of 1x4 narra and some left over woods were turned into a 4x8x12 box.
My wips begin with planing the narra.
the rabbets done on my router jig.
the spline slots were likewise cut on the same jig.
and the assembled box ready for finishing. Still undecided on the type of coats to use.
to be continued folks...
Re: Building boxes... post yours too
Continuing this box project..i was choosing between quadrant and butt type of hinges to be used..
but decided to use the butt type coz i don't want to ruin another box using quadrant hinge, its painstakingly difficult to install without the proper tool to bore the deep pocket holes.
using again my router jig to cut the hinge slots.
Re: Building boxes... post yours too
what a useful horizontal router indeed!
where can i get those specialty hinges brader?
thanks!

sa T. Alonzo docV, unfortunately pinakyaw ko ang last 7 pairs they had coz they said they won't import those "slow moving" items again, and the ones I got in Pudong are chrome plated lang. Pahiram ko sayo isang pair. Just send me PM.

@ Armand,
I do remember when you posted your DIY router jig and I was captivated by it, and I said to myself, man!!!!!!!! I'll make one for myself like that and will pattern the design using yours. That router jig is very practical and very handy, I hope that's ok with you na hiramin ko design mo.
ACtually I've been looking at sulit.com for a not so expensive slim router, maybe a Ryobi or an Ozito brand, I'll use that for my planned router jig too.
Anyway I like your box too, ang ganda na naman and as always very sleek and I can feel it, its gonna be very useful who ever gets that. :p
Congrats for a very nice box. Job well done again. 🙂

Re: Building boxes... post yours too
Thanks Rosy, you can copy the jig anytime. Actually i got the idea of the jig from numerous websites and i just simplified it. My router is Ozito 650watts trimmer from sulit and i bought 2 pcs para may back-up ako and at the same time use the extra as regular router. I'm still avoiding projects that will require heavy use of a router (my table projects don't have edge designs on top).
this box project is still far from over, wala pa mga splines and inner trays.
