@violaine

the shop's biggest customer for quadrant hinge closed down after the factory for jewelry boxes with american market was flooded by ondoy.

Sige docV dala ko na lagi 1 pair of quadrant hinge, the only problem is that no screws were included when i bought them, just find some from screws stores.

:go::go: armand...

hay naku!!!, iba talaga ang magagaling, kelan kaya ako makakagawa ng box...

takot ako gumawa ng box, baka trapezoid ang lumabas...

hangang tingin tingin nalang sa gawa nyo...

since it is narra... it's best if you use lighter stain or no stain at all...

i-highlight mo lang yung grain ng narra...like using BLO...then top coat...

yun ay sa akin lamang bro....

ang ganda ng box mo !!!

Re: Building boxes... post yours too

Finished putting the splines last and initially coated with thinned sanding sealer.

The result is very disgusting, the acacia and camachile on the cover showed their true colors and didn't blend well with the narra body. I didn't expect this to happen and its also a result of poor choice on using left over woods. Nawalan ng appeal.

.
getting help from Photoshop this morning and experimented on darkening the cover. I hope it is achieveable in the actual using dark walnut stain.

di naman Jon..its still a basic box.

for me building a box is more intricate than building furnitures. The box is closer to the eyes of the beholders and its details are more scrutinized than furnitures. Its very hard to hide the errors too.

yes armand that's true, kaya ayaw ko pa gumawa ng box eh, kasi expert na talaga gumagawa nyan, hindi puedeng dayain...

Re: Building boxes... post yours too

I finally finished my box today. Finished with 4 coats of sanding sealer (i'm saving the BLO for my upcoming dining chairs project) and 2 coats of 3 parts clear gloss lacquer and 1 part dead flat lacquer mixture to achieve satin effect. Lined with felt paper lang muna, very hard to find the suede cloth, tsaka na lang palitan.

Lighting is very poor inside the house so I took it to the terrace and proceeded with the photo session.

.

.

.

that's my 3rd box, for now.

Re: Building boxes... post yours too

that box looked very handsome!

i just finished applying sanding sealer to my drafting table eh..no time to finish it..2nd coat na...600 grit in between..next weekend na lang uli yung poly top coat...mga two coats lang siguro..and will let it dry for 1 week before use.

i love the handle btw...simple and elegant.

in the future id be making a four drawer jewelry box...and a top drawer with those hinges you have shown before.

whats the top wood made of bro?

or just stained with wenge?

nice photoshoot..near perfect as it turned out.
:jazzysax:

whos the owner btw?

@violaine

the handle is handmade white lauan mortised to the lid frame.

the top is joint acacia and camachile but stained with dark walnut, but before that faux painted muna with oil based maple stain para magkunwaring kamagong pag patong ng walnut.

I intended to give this to my boss (sipsip) who is a watch connoisseur but still i'm not satisfied with the quality, I'd rather give this na lang to our HR Manager as bday gift for her (sipsip talaga).
