I was going to use a router to flush trim a tabletop edge but there is a glue line plus a lot of squeezed out glue that is now hardened. Actually, it is not the glue line but the squeezed out glue that is in the path of the router bit.
So, can a router bit handle this or will it get damaged? The label on Elmer's and other glues say 'stronger than wood'.
There was a post about jointer blades getting nicked by glue lines in plywood
Why you shouldn't put plywood in a jointer
and I assume this no-no also applies to planer blades, but I'm guessing that the carbide coating on a router bit is the difference that would allow it to blast through not just glue lines but gobs of squeezeout?
Re: Can router bits blast through glue without damage?
Hi Rene,
How are you these days? Some glue not only damage the coating but gum up the bit edges so they heat up dangerously making the bit blade brittle w/c eventually leads to chipping. Some glue are designed to avert or minimize this problem but for sure will cost more than your basic PVA glue. I use Pioneer wood glue for my production being friendly on the blades but equally tough as it's foreign contemporaries. It's also lighter on the pocket plus blends well even with solvent type finishes. Nice to see you posting again. Take care my friend.
Ot...your epoxy samples still await you just in case you need them.

Hi Willy,
Behind on all the wood projects as always! Definitely still need the UV epoxy sample ... previous UV epoxy + PU coating hopelessly flaked away now, concrete cracking and chipping all over, needs major resurfacing. I think "must pickup epoxy sample" everytime I go Manila ... maybe next trip!
Re: Can router bits blast through glue without damage?
Guad,
Router bits should handle the dried glue without exploding, it could damage the edges or dull them much faster though. I normally remove as much glue with a chisel or scraper before router bits touch them.

Re: Can router bits blast through glue without damage?
Noted, thanks. I normally wipe away any glue before it dries but apparently missed major lengths on this one.
