Has someone know where I can buy this locally. ....

Or if not a shop that can do threads on wood or maybe a link on how to do this. The treaded screw and the nut is the problem. I’m considering Tap but need a 2 threads per inch. Wanted to build a classic style woodworking bench. TIA !!:)!!

Re: Classic Style Vise Screw

Beyond the 1", 6 tpi of the Beall or the 1.5", 6 tpi of the Woodcraft, it looks like the price of tap and die approach rises to stratosphere, or at least a very good bandsaw or laptop.

Have you seen the videos of noho91, like
How to make easy wooden bolt and nut. 簡単手作り木製ボルトナット

Ironically, I think that as the size and pitch increases, the method suggested above becomes easier because the error tolerance increases and the working space increases, especially for doing the internal threads.

In above, he improvises a crude rotary tool to cut the internal threads, but I would probably use a proper rotary tool. I think the ideal bit would be ... what do you call the 3D solid that results from rotating an isosceles triangle around its odd side? It would look a bead in the abacuses or abaci below. Is there a rotary tool bit like this?

Re: Classic Style Vise Screw

Sir, gusto mo ba talaga wood?
Kasi you can achieve the same effect by using metal - and mas madaming small metal shops na meron lathe machines na kayang kaya gawin ito...

Pede mo rin siguro punta sa Don Bosco machine shop supervisor nila...
I am sure they will be able to handle this request both metal or wood

Good Luck

Re: Classic Style Vise Screw

Its been along time and finally we have idea on how to accomplish this. Before I was eyeing on this …
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCLGC...e=channel_page
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLTEB...e=channel_page

but naahhh It wont do the job for classic vise the largest diameter they have is only 1 ½ “ and a 6 tpi to pricey too. The idea came from Timber [COLOR="Blue"]“wala kasi magawa kung di mag surf sa internet” and he discover how to do this. My part is to turn some wood for the screw.

Start with 3x3 square wood.

It’s a lot easier if I drill 1” diameter hole now before the turnings.

And plug 1” diameter dowel to avoid blowout during turnings.
