Good day guys! this is my first post here in Pinoyhandyman, been a looker on this site for a while and good thing i joined the site. 🙂 anyway, i was wondering if any hardware stores here in the PH that sells Colored wood stains? like color green, red or blue? like the Stain on this guitar.
Re: Colored Wood Stain?
Some have tried analine dyes aka "jobus" found in bookstores to be promising.
Re: Colored Wood Stain?
Thanks sir jarod! didn't think that fabric dyes can be use to stain wood.

There are Non-grain raising (NGR) stains - solvent type like lacquers and Polyurethane, that
are available locally. They come in White, Red, Yellow, Green, Black, Tobacco Brown, Dark Tobacco Brown, Maple and Mahogany. If you are well versed w/ a color wheel you may even mix these basic colors to come up w/ exiting variants. TRITON, SPHERO & BOYSEN are just a few brands to choose from.
Re: Colored Wood Stain?
I would suggest trying oil paints used by artists that paint canvas, they are similar if not the same composition as oil based stain...

oil based paints i believe are thick enough to hide wood grains.
aniliine dyes are a better option as they are water based and wont hide the grains.

if you're hiding the grain, why not paint it?

Doc, it is the same techniques used by guitar makers abroad. and just like stain and glaze you need to wipe off the excess. this was actually featured in a magazine before (I think it was woodsmith), the thickness of the oil based paint can be controlled. you can dilute it first so it won't be thick to apply and hide the patterns....

Hi, I've been lurking this forum for quite some time now and this is my first post.
Just wondering what kind of wood is used on marine plywoods and is it possible to stain (ebony in particular) them?
TIA

local plywood commonly use tanguille, you can stain any wood to look like kamagaong. unfortunately kamagong is a tight grained wood and tanguille is very opened grain. so while the color could look the same the texture would be worlds apart....
off topic na po yan, so please open another thread if you want to pursue the question.

ask the manufacturers, they do make painted electric guitars - who's to say what's underneath.

Re: Colored Wood Stain?
Just tried the Fabric dye method suggested by sir Jarod, and it's a charm, it works! the grains of the ply really did raised!
