TIA :thanks:

Re: corner joints

Good day brader Dogman, I would suggest you get a Kreg jig for this joint if you want it fast and simple, but that's just my "singko" idea, lets wait for our masters suggestions.

Re: corner joints

try ko muna mortise and tenon habang wala pag budget para sa kreg tools. nakita ko nga yung demo ng kreg tool, nakaka-hook lalo...

Re: corner joints

Those photos show tables. Joints are most probably mortise and tenon. If you have no experience on this joint and are willing to start, maybe this is good practice. You'll need, at least a good backsaw and chisels.

But how heavy is your load on the cabinet? 2x2 seems a bit excessive for a (I assume) hanging cabinet. Normally, you just strengthen the support with some good bracketing.

The thick frames in the photos are necessary because they are tables; I.e. Standalone and load is on tabletop. For a cupboard/hanging cabinet, you need to strengthen the attachment of the base to the wall; and maybe also the top if the top will also carry load. You can do this with exposed metal brackets available in practically all hardware stores.

If you don't want the brackets visible and really like the framed approach, you can do mortise and tenon joints for the corners and route or chisel away dados on the frame so you can insert the plywood walls, floor, and top.

If you don't want to do M&T joints, I'd suggest some long and thick screws. Or Kreg reinforced by glue.

Re: corner joints

thanks a lot balarila.

I will use 2x2 for a cupboard (aside from the hanging cabinet), will be using it for storage of bottled goods (lots of it), and some thick- bottomed cooking pans and pots.

I will use 2x2 for the frame of the cupboard, then plywood ang walls. masyado po bang magastos sa kahoy ang plano ko at hindi advisable? very welcome po ang suggestions nyo. i'm very eager to learn.

i'll probably try mortise and tenon.

question ulit, kung 2x2 ang gagamitin ko for the frame, gano kalalim/ano ang sixe dapat ng mortise and tenon? may standard po ba itong joint na ito?

is there an appropriate use for through and stopped mortise and tenon? or choice lang talaga ng gumagawa yun?

Re: corner joints

Consider this as a practice project then. Go for the M&T. You'll learn a lot doing your first joints. You'll need some patience, though, as you will be doing 16 M&Ts for each box. If the cabinet will be a long horizontal one, you'll want dividers and that adds 4 M&Ts for each divider's frame.

You will also need to plan on how you will do the doors.

These can all be done with hand tools: crosscut saw, backsaw, chisels, and squala (tri-square). But much quicker with power tools. Do you have any?

Try also to look for Elmer's Carpenter Glue. They're not so common but can be found in some hardware stores or even National Bookstore.

You'll also need to plan on the finishing.

For wood, look for the straightest lumber you can find and ask for kiln-dried (KD) S4S (short for smooth on four sides.

Here's a nice article for M&T joints: http://www.woodworkersjournal.com/uploads/imports/publicationsarticle/Mortise_and_Tenon_Primer.pdf

I never did through tenons as I feel they're too much work and I don't like the look of the tenon visible on the side of wood.

Re: corner joints

salamat balarila.

it is, a practice project, but i intend to make use of it. 😀

tools i recently bought:

stanley stel345
chisel
handsaw
hand plane
squala

meron na ako bosch drill, kaya pinagiisipan ko din ang kreg jig ni jayl. 😀

mukang madadagdagan pa ang mga ito dahil nahawa na ako sa virus sa community na ito 😀

the walls and top and bottom plywood panels are actually cut according to measurement already. the length is 3 feet (as far as i can recall), and the height will be 30 inches.

2x2 KD have been bought as well, ako na lang talaga hinihintay.

tama kayo sir, may dividers ito. it will have 4 divisions, 2 doors. I already bought magnet locks for the doors, and hinges as well. di ko nakita ng maaga yung bit for concealed hinges, sayang.

i'll be using 1/2 inch plywood for the doors with 1x1 on the trims to attach the hinges and locks.

Re: corner joints

thanks for sharing bro rosy. unable to view the pdf file though. file might have been removed from the directory. anyway, sa tingin ko ganto na lang ang joint na gagamitin ko since same sizes of wood ang gagamitin ko sa frame.

I can still view the file. Just check if you have a PDF reader in your computer.

I have downloaded the file so, if you have problems on the site, just give me your email address and I'll email to you.

Hey bro Dogman,

Don't thank me for the link, its bro balarila we should be thanking for posting that link on M&T joints. I just copied it and pasted it on my last post so others can easily open the file. ;):D
