Yes, it is normal to use edge banding that is wider than the thickness of your material.

You just trim it flush to your workpiece. You can use a chisel, box cutter, or even a router to trim it. Personally I use this for trimming:

Hi, Joey. Pa-hijack sandali ng thread. I also bought that quadtrimmer from Amazon which is enroute to Manila intending to use it to round off sharp edges on table/desk/cabinet tops. Pwede rin ba sa all wood top yan?

It can be used for wooden edge band up to maybe 3mm thick. However, it can't kill sharp corners. The cutting edge runs parallel to the shelf's top and bottom surfaces.

Tama ang sukat ng nabili mo na edge band. Sadyang oversize yun pvc edge band. For the 3/4" board the available edge band are 1x22mm, 2x22mm if im not mistaken meron din 3mm thick.

Sad to say but you need to trim the edge band.

maraming salamat po sa replies nyo. yung band trimmer din nga ang nakita kong solution, pero wala ako makita sa local hardwares. meron ako cutter dito, so tiyaga na lang muna. hehehe. all along akala ko mali ang nabili ko. salamat at nanjan kayo sa community na ito.

If you're from Manila, there's locally available edge band trimmer similar to pic joey81 posted. Available at Mckenzie Hardware at T. Alonzo if im not mistaken more or less P1K yun price.

magandang araw sa inyo mga fellow handymen.

pahingi po ng tulong kung saan nakakabili ng 3/4 inch na enge band. mali kasi ang nabili ko, 1 inch ang nabili ko, newbie mistake. gumawa ang ng dining table, laminated pero ayaw ko pa ikabit ang edge band and i-trim manually ang excess.

sa ace hardware SM Annex ko nabili yung edge band na 1 inch, 1 inch lang ang meron sila, meron ba nito sa ibang hardware stores? nagtanong ako sa wilcon cubao kahapon, pati sa handyman sa ali mall, wala daw sila kahit anong edge band. may 3/4 inch po ba na edge band o tini-trim lang talaga yun?

Normally the market has two types, preglued or bare. Sa preglue you can use plantsa with a piece of thick plain paper between iron and edge or heat gun with a rubber roller(diy-hair dryer at rolling pin) industry usually uses hotair edgebanders. Sa bare for diy you need sprayon adhesive yung rugby in an aerosol can. This instance industry uses hotmelt edgebanders.

I get my edge band from World Class Laminates. Your choice if you want it to have heat activated glue. I prefer mine to be pre-glued.

To intstall I use heat gun. Hair dryer or flat iron will also do but heat gun is faster. To press it to the workpiece I use a J-roller.
