Hey guys

Posting my very first woodworking project that I've completed.

Now that its a photo, I'm seeing all the mistakes I made. I thought the UKA at the undeside looked like it briings the table character, It doesnt pala. Looks like noob craftsmanship.

Should improve on my next project.

Anyway, coffee table for my mother's condo project. Legs flatblack (unknown and salvaged kilndry, yellow (maple) stained Ash, and 3/4 tempered glass, with hafele table height adjusters.

Im currently staining an Ash dining table base. Tempered glass for that one as well.

Drew

Nice work Drew! Have you tried/still able flip the "uka" to be on the upper side and fancy if it makes it better?

Re: First Project - Coffee Table - just sharing

Thanks guys! very encouraging. I can't turn it around anymore to hide the uka part. Its okay cause my mom (her condo) is okay with the flaws of the table. She's like that. Talks alot about her material things as having character and a story behind it.

Thanks JayL. What did you do and how can i correct my posting of pictures?

Looks like a nice proper sala size coffee table. What kind of wood is it? I'm almost done with my dining table base. Its Ash also like my coffee table. Tempered glass din ang dining table top. I have pics but i'll wait for advice on what i did wrong with the posting so i can do it right this time.

Thanks again.

Hello DrewCorleone,

Hey, Rome was not built in one day if you get my drift, your first project looks good to me, so what with that certain uka somewhere, that is not important anymore, your mom is so happy with your project, same thing with you, you are happy and proud of yourself, winner ka na dyan, as long as it was made from the heart with all the good intentions within.

Maybe with your next project you will do it carefully and improve it, every new project made is always an improvement of the first one so just go go go build more and keep on posting here so that others may be inspired.

We'll be waiting for your next project, good luck !!!

Re: First Project - Coffee Table - just sharing

Hey guys! Thanks sir Rosy for the words of wisdom!

Goodluck on the build mahavishnu! Hope i can see photos of your glasstop table.

I bought the wood at formaply in qc. scouts area. I used both glue and screws.

I'm still having a hard time with posting photos. Sir. Admin, would it be okay to post my new blog site? Its my personal site on my wood working. bootleggarageprojects.weebly.com

my second project is there. Ash dining table.

I bought old yakal for another table im thinking up. But i cant start it yet cause the design is a metal base and legs and i dont have a welding machine nor the skills to weld... YET.

Thanks again guys!

Re: First Project - Coffee Table - just sharing

Drew you do good work, If you would allow.... I strongly suggest you support that dining table the same way you supported the feet. Yes with brackets. Metal would be fine but I believe you are capable to do it with wood, it shouldn't be much added work but will not only beutify the table but offer strength thereafter.
Goodluck

Re: First Project - Coffee Table - just sharing

Ditto on the support.

I can see that you want a zen effect on your design. I am a minimalist myself when it comes to furniture. But I would be uncomfortable dining in that table as it appears unstableboth on the feet and the glass top. It would be a shame if such beautiful work would get damaged if it keels over. Just my 0.02.

Where did you get your ash?

Re: First Project - Coffee Table - just sharing

IF you burn wood you wont just get ash wood, you will get ash house.

Thanks sir Timber and sir balarila. I bought the ash from formaply. I might go back soon to get a few more stocks of ash cause i cant make anything with my last stock i have here. and maybe i'll try a different kind. maybe oak. i dont know what they have right now.

I've tested the tipping of the dining table. the metal feet i attached at the bottom of the base does its job. the base will not tip. you'd have to lift it to make it tilt. It is true though that the glasstop is the thin ice so to speak.

I just realized that somethimes some people eat alone, and that would mean only one side of the table will have weight making it unbalanced haha. Either that, or if you are dining with someone pero diet sya at ikaw malakas kumain haha

I might have to figure out what to put between the wood and the glass that spans the width of it, so it can be a stable dining experience. I can't decide if it will look nice if i match the black flat bars i put on as feet and put a pair to hold the glass. I like its current look, but the function suffers.

Could i glue and put screws on 1in x 3in x 1meter ash stocks to the side to span and support the width of the glass? or will i need a joint or technique stronger than glue and screws?
