mga sir, newbie question lang po.
What do you usually use as a guide or fence (if that's the correct term) when using circular saw or a router to cut a wide sheet of plywood? Since the guide that usually comes w/ the power tool is not long enough.
i see some pictures here in PHM that uses steel or wood as fence/guide w/ clamps on both ends. are those fences custom made? or i can just use any straight edge metal and clamp it to plywood sheet that im going to cut?

thanks.

Re: guide/fence question

For a long time, I used what you described: a 3/4-inch plywood with an aluminum angle bar glued onto it. It worked well for me.

But clamping is tricky.

Last year, I got this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TXSAHU/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Works great. Much easier to clamp on. Got it from Amazon and had it shipped here via Forex Cargo.

It's expensive shipping long items so if you're thinking about it, best to buy a whole bunch of long items or arrange a group buy here to spread the shipping cost.

thanks for the info sir balarila. that's a great tool to have for newbies. sadly im not familiar w/ online shopping and wala din akong credit card:) I'm currently working onboard a ship right now and our trading route is around Europe. I might get lucky na makakita sa mga hardware/DIY shop nang straight edge clamping tool just like yours. If not, then i just have to settle for aluminum angle bar and a plywood:lol:

Re: guide/fence question

Hi denber,

Well I guess you have to settle first for the meantime of DIYing your straight edge guide fence to be able to work on some of your projects immediately, I suppose it will just be perfectly alright.

Perhaps when your ship docks on some European countries and you get to have some free time, you can search or buy a nice straight edge guide there, or maybe ask someone to buy it for you.

GOOD LUCK !!! 😉 :bouncealt:
