Re: Guitar Rack

Hmmm .... my earlier post did not go through it seems.

I heard Timber that the Paco distributor is no longer stocking Tuff. If they still have you guys better stock up. Yes, Tuff is the best plywood in the country although it is about 25% more expensive. This is what us in the PHBYC have been using and recommend without hesitation.

Re: Guitar Rack

still some time and not sleepy, I decide to apply two coats of water based poly.

Very nice color contrast, it made the appearance 100% better. It almost look like an acoustic guitar with its bindings.

As expected, nice work sir timber!

With regards to the finish that you applied, it made me realize that there are still a lot of things that I need to research on. There are so many options that it makes me confused what to use on what.

Re: Guitar Rack

don't worry Jarod, one step at a time lang. decided to use poly since guitars use the same finish...

I start today by marking the mounting screws... used masking tape to lay the marks and reduce tear during drilling.

made the counterbore as well but the camera batteries ran out... 🙂

Re: Guitar Rack

I like the contrast on those.. nicely done. Your lucky to have gotten those minwax stuff when truevalue were getting rid of them. I was just starting woodworking then, i did not realize the value of it so i just got a can of polystain and a box of american made screws. Haay, i regret not getting more.

Re: Guitar Rack

thanks Ben.
Migs,
hehehe, thats the thing about woodworking that I have learned. buy when prices are good, not when you need them... lol, got 5 different kinds of finish during that time.

the bad thing was, I missed out on the Shellac that went on 50% sale... dang.

Doesn't shellac have a shelf life? It might not have been good to get it also.

yes it does, but with denatured alcohol as a thinner, I assume I can extend its life by a year or two more.

The 5 mm plywood I used to use cost P390 a sheet, Sta. Clara brand, which is why I said 5 mm Tuff is only 25% more at P550. Isn't regular plywood P320 a sheet? Whatever it is we should consider ourselves very lucky because plywood of similar quality in the U.S. costs something like $60 a sheet!

Great stash of finishing stuff there Timber.

Re: Guitar Rack

thanks lncc, the price I guess was comparing to 3/4" ply. from 875 each for ordinary against Tuff stuff which is 1,800.00...

Re: Guitar Rack

Is the Sta. Clara plywood a good plywood brand? I've heard of that before but never tried it.

Re: Guitar Rack

Sta Clara is the 2nd best plywood for boatbuilding IMHO but way behind Tuff. Please keep in mind though guys that a boatbuilder puts having no voids in the inner plies and multiple equal thickness plies above the quality of the outer veneers. Topan Marketing, along Sgt. Rivera in QC is a distributor.
