Re: help with this shoe rack

I guess you are right with the use of the word "correct"....

Anyway, darrrling can choose her path....
I believe the choice of glue would be stikwell. Right? :p
I do recommend you try something complicated than trying to simplify and rush projects, it is what bring ones skill higher...
Btw, you can use the cheapest hinges you chose if it makes you happy. And you can choose button fly on your pants if it makes you proud...

Most of us recommend the best you can afford for things you wish to make good. Its a different thing when it doesn't matter what the outcome is... Regarding our pants? Who cares?
Also, she isn't making a piano.... Which I think the piano hinge was made for?
Innovative? Pivot bar? Unique? Ha? Which is unique or innovative ba? none... These have been in use for centuries.... In case you are not aware... Wala ba kayong furniture, wood work or even metal work na may pivot mechanism? Maybe if you found one you can recommend it too....

Now it makes me wonder why they don't use the piano hinge in car hoods.... Hmmmmmm
Edited: we would btw love to see your woodwork sir, hope you can post some pictures of your work.

I bow to your authority and expertise Sir Timber.

I apologize if somehow I presented myself as an expert nowhere near the caliber as you, with such deep reputation in this forum.

You are correct, I do not have the patience and craftsmanship to do it the "correct" way. I want it done the fastest and easiest way possible to do the job. Looks come secondary to me.

The point I was trying to make was not to put down the pivot solution but there are so many other possible solutions, hence the "button fly" statement meant to illustrate that sometimes people choose to use things out of the usual.

As regards to my own woodwork, I do some humble carpentry and rest assured if I have a project that I deem exciting, challenging or a lesson to share with this forum I will not hesitate to post it.

To illustrate my amateur wood woodworking skills however, no need. I will just admit it right off the bat.

Now that my amateur wood worker status has been established, it does not change the fact that a piano hinge derived its name from its historical use and does not prevent anyone from utilizing its function wherever the user deems fit. May panahon yata sa Phil history na popular sila sa mga closet doors.

Darrrling seems to be inclined in using Sir Armand's well illustrated solution.

Mukhang talo na yung kandidato ko na bisagra 🙂

Like Sir Armand said, dami na choices ni Darrrling and the next step would be the execution.

Good luck to Darrrling and more power (or power tools?) to Sir Timber.

Salamat sa link:

Sa paningin ng isang amateur na tulad ko, hindi naman pala ganun kapangit ang ordinary hinges. What more if they were concealed hinges readily available at the hardware store.

No that doesn't look bad at all.... It just looks wrong. Again wrong could be relative so I will put in perpective since you are a car person. Its like putting a piano hinge in car doors with the linkages showing. It will work fine, but its just not right.

Must you really use hinges on this build, you can look for scissor hinges, they are available at Hafele.
If cost is a concer, the hardwood dowels can be bought for about 20 pesos for a two foot lenght and should be more than enogh for four drawers.

Also it is so so much easier to use the dowels than mounting the hinges for newbies...

Now that you put it in a car's perspective, it makes it crystal clear.

You have convinced me of your seasoned point, and in the remote possibility that I will build a similar project, I promise to give that mystical dowel a try.

Peace!
