Re: honduran rosewood

eBay. Got lucky. It's hard to win with wood like this. And the US restricts export of Honduran rosewood. I thought that it would never get here.

Re: honduran rosewood

Wow! I bet the logistics cost was higher than the cost of wood itself!

Re: honduran rosewood

Not as much in terms of cost, but close. But to get wood like this to me is well worth it. It's Honduran rosewood! Hehehe

A guitar fingerboard blank 2"x8"x7mm costs usd14.00

I think I'll get my money back, and then some...hehehe

Did some googling and found that this wood is a favorite among acoustical instrument makers. Must produce some good music. BTW, are you the JB Music person?

After you finish cutting it up, I'd be happy to do you the favor of collecting your "retaso". 🙂

Re: honduran rosewood

Nope I don't own JB music. I get that a lot tho hahahaha.

I sanded a part of it and smelled the wood. Smells like apples. Ang bango. The thing with wood like this (or and plank of wood) is that you have to plan the cutting for maximum yield and minimal waste. I don't think that there will be waste in this wood, apart from sawdust. I spent more than an hour figuring out how the cuts should come in succession lol

Yeah it's a favorite among instrument makers. In the 50's it was the only acceptable substitute for Brazilian rosewood. IBut now it's getting rarer and I feel fortunate to get a plank of the stuff. I plan to make a few guitar's with this thing. Nervous, tho. It will be like working with dynamite lol bawal magkamali

Re: honduran rosewood

Thanks guys!

It took me a while to track and bag one of these. Minsan meron pero nabili agad. Minsan ang mahal. Tsambahan lang hehehe!

@ron
I make guitars as a hobby. So over the years I've gotten gaboon ebony and other ebonies. I also have Indian rosewood, cocobolo, bastogne walnut, purple heart spruce and cedar and God knows what other woods. Whenever I see a demolition going on, esp an old house, I look around for some planks that I can take. Few realize and appreciate that wood is a very limited resource. Btw, What do you use to turn the wood?

I have a bad case of wood acquisition syndrome (WAS). Hehehe! Now I want to get some panama rosewood in the future. ipon muna. I want to cross out the dalbergia list.

Re: honduran rosewood

hi sir,

maybe i can acquire some of your wood kahit mga 2x2x18 lang mga sizes...so i could widen my knowledge on woods that could be turned into cue sticks...or pens...i really have to see those other woods tulad nung kamachile ni sir joey...i find the amboyna the prettiest of them all pero di sya ganun katigas sa kamagong...

any chance i could visit you so i could see some of your stash...ill bring some cues also for you to see...

regards

ron

Re: honduran rosewood

nga pala we do have a lathe machine to do the turning...2 lathes...2 drill presses modified to our use...then the basic planer, chainsaw, grinder, bandsaw, compressor / spray...etc...
