Re: How to wood stain door in step by step procedure

each woodwork (like your door) has its own finishing schedule (or what work is required or desired for finishing). thus it would help if you can post a picture of your door. di it straight flat door without profile? without joints?
staining is a simple process of wiping or brushing stain on wood waiting several minutes (as direction dictates) and wiping off. But, this works great for a piece that doesn't have profiles and joints, though it works too, the result can be damaging since some joints can be compromised. and some profiles will not allow an even wipe-off.
posting a picture will provide you better answers from us.

Re: How to wood stain door in step by step procedure

Hi Sir Timber,
Here's the picture of my maindoor which I purchased from Twoheads.

And here's the picture of my room door which i purchased from delmar woodworks and plan to replicate the staining from my main door.

please give me some advice on how to come up with the staining of my front door. I already bought ACE Sanding sealer, Dark Walnut Oil WoodStain and Polyurethane Clear Finish Satin. The sales agent in ACE hardware advice me to apply first the sanding sealer for 2 coats in 4 hours interval, then the woodstain and then the Poly. What i wanted to know is how can I attain the dark border like my maindoor. thanks and more power to this forum.

Re: How to wood stain door in step by step procedure

make sure there isn't any finish on the door. then follow these steps:
the sanding sealer would provide a nice even starting point for staining. I would suggest one coat sanding sealer, sand flat using 220 grit then another coat ss. sand lightly with scrubbing pad like 3m. then apply stain. follows directions on each material. several coats of stain can be applied until the desired depth is achieved. in between coats you can apply ss and sand or scrub as needed. when depth is achieved you can apply the poly.

Sir Timber,
What does "finish" means? From your post "make sure there isn't any finish on the door."

Hi Sir Timber

I'll keep all that instructions in mind. But, will my dark walnut woodstain can attain the color that i want in the border? or should i use mahogany? i've been doing some testing on some wood furniture in our house.hehehe. trial and error muna.

Re: How to wood stain door in step by step procedure

the door edge you posted seem to have a reddish shade, might be an optical illusion, but if it is somewhat reddish choose dark mahogany, if not walnut will give you the darker shade in less layers...

Re: How to wood stain door in step by step procedure

Wow. Post some pictures sir jeunecarlos jan sa project nio. I want to see the result.

BTW, I having some problem in buying the materials needed. As I have learned from this forum and from sir jeunecarlos, materials needed as I listed are.

- ACE Sanding sealer
- Dark Walnut Oil WoodStain
- Polyurethane Clear Finish Satin

I went to a construction supplies store/shop and looked for that particular materials, but are not available. The only brand they have is Davies? And I went also to a mall where DIY Shop is at there, nalito ulit ako kc nung ask ko if may mga materials sila for Wood stain, sabi ng sales agent wala daw, sabi pa nia brand daw ung Wood stain? Ang mga andun lang mga varnish na nakabote, na may label na mahogany ganun.. Hais, nalilito pa rin ako sa mga terms, anyone can help me about right materials needed. Pati ung sa sanding paper na mga kailangan, may mga grit pala ung mga un..

Anyway, may isa pang mall dito sa place namin na present ang DIY Store ng Robinson, I don't know if may mga materials doon for wood staining, di pa ako nakakapunta.

Re: How to wood stain door in step by step procedure

angelo,

Since you mentioned:

-[COLOR="Red"] ACE Sanding sealer
- Dark Walnut Oil WoodStain
- Polyurethane Clear Finish Satin

Why not try looking at:

  • [COLOR="Red"]ACE stores (SM Branches) first? Then
  • True Value (ATC Alabang, Park Square Makati, Rockwell Makati, etc)
  • Handyman (Robinson's Branches).

Re: How to wood stain door in step by step procedure

that is correct Angelo, most of the materials I specified are bought at ACE hardware, hence the brand. malapit ka lng naman sa megamall, pasyalan mo na lang...
