Greetings,

Good to be back again here in Pinoyhandyman.

I have a real nice IKEA type wooden bed in my son's room that broke. Have had it for more than 10 years, can't find any store that sells anything like this.
All of a sudden, in normal (sleeping/sitting on) use, the side framing board broke along the serrated joints found in both side boards.
Apparently, this was made from scrap wood that was serrated (dovetailed ?) together and glued.
I do not think the broken side can be repaired to the same strength as before so I was thinking of making 1 maybe 2 sides frame boards ( they look identical),
and it ought to be as good as new.
The back and front portions as I can see are still strong & OK.
The other side frame board as I can see is still intact, strong & OK.

Questions:
1. Is there someone out there who has a woodworking shop & can 'duplicate' these bed side frames exactly (as strong, if not stronger) like before ?
2. How much will it cost ? I live in the Mandaluyong Shaw blvd area, so a nearer shop would be best.
3. Is it worth doing this ? both side boards have 2 wooden plugs (guide) plugs on each side that stick out so it has to be well made, exact in fitting & reassembly.

Many thanks for your response.

Cheers and God bless.
🙂

That can still be repaired. Apply wood glue (Elmer's Carpenter's glue, available at National Bookstore) and clamp the broken pieces together. Tight enough to restore the original dimension but too tight that the glue is squeezed out. Wait for glue to cure overnight before removing clamps.

If you have the tools, you can recreate the broken pieces using a sturdy wood, otherwise it can be repaired.
