hi,
is there a shop around that does this kind of service?
let's say a purchased a few slabs of 2x4 and 2x6 and i ask them to cut them to 36" and 48" length or any length i want, they will cut it.
Re: is there a shop that pre-cuts purchased stock?
most of the depots , eg. Wilcon will do it, but they will cut it by HAND by the sales staff hence its not a very clean cut.
Re: is there a shop that pre-cuts purchased stock?
As long as it is not a lot of work for them, most shops will do it. Like Bee said, it won't be pretty. Some shops will charge a cutting fee. I just usually sneak my suki helper a P20 bill. He does help me too a lot pick out the best pieces from the piles.
Re: is there a shop that pre-cuts purchased stock?
problems that i have currently are:
- i only have a car, no pickup nor van
- i don't have powertools to cut straight
if they cut by hand, then i guess i might as well use my hand saw. i might end up cutting better. i was hoping they would do this straight or perfect...
Re: is there a shop that pre-cuts purchased stock?
Of the big stores, as long as few pieces only, I found Ace and Handyman and Timberco outlet willing to make one cut in lumber to reduce length so as to fit in car. IIRC, Wilcon and Home Depot were not willing/allowed.
There could be some risk to a store in doing cuts. At one Handyman, one piece of Matwood engineered lumber split/delaminated as they were sawing it, so I could not accept it. Ace avoids this risk by having you pay first before they cut.
If you want nice cuts, an option may be to bring your own saw and offer to cut the wood yourself. Never tried or needed to do this.
Sheets (e.g., plywood) are a different story. So far, I have not found any mall/depot store willing/allowed to cut. At non-mall store, you just have to ask. At one store where I am regular customer, they cut 2 sheets of MDF by hand (took long time) and said that next time I could bring own electric circular saw if I wanted.
Re: is there a shop that pre-cuts purchased stock?
Partially off topic, but speaking of cuts -- does anyone know of a shop that can do resawing (e.g., 4 inches deep, 16 feet long) of a few pieces of lumber for a small fee?
Preferably by band saw, although a large table saw OK also. What would be typical fee for this kind of job?

A friend of mine had a sash factory along the Manila East Rd. do it. There are several in the vicinity of the New Taytay Market.
