Hi BAKERO and PHM! I’m also wondering if there’s a workshop that offers tools for rent for thicknessing wood for my projects, because I only a have block plane at the moment hehehe:)

Re: Jointer / Planer service

Hi Chidori,

I don't use jointer ( I don't own one ) or power planer ( which is very loud ) to bring the wood to final dimension, I feel there's so much waste of wood. Instead of jointer/power planer, why not have it resaw according to your dimension. This will ofcourse involve a bandsaw, Or if you really want to get your hand dirty, grab a handsaw sharpened for ripcut pattern. I bought a 24 inch Stanley handsaw ( crosscut ) then I file the tooth for ripcut.
So far I'm happy with the results, and with a few pass from my jack plane and smoothing plane I got good result. I know some guy who sell jack plane and smoothing plane if you need one.

I started with power tools when I first join the forums, but later on I found out its more enjoyable to work with handtools like handsaw, chisel handplane etc.. Its safe, quite and cordless πŸ™‚

You can also make a framesaw out of pieces of wood and a bandsaw blade which is very cheap around 40php per foot, You only need 2-3 feet. I'm starting to make one, but its pending right now because of the stanley handsaw that I bought and the result I got from it suites my need as of now.
I'm no expert just sharing my experience with handtools.
I'm building a garden bench right now, made from a reclaimed wood. I will post some photo's using the stanley ripsaw if your interested.

Re: Jointer / Planer service

If you have large planks and you really want them jointed and planed, and if you happen to be within Rizal area, there's a sawmill in Maria Clara st., Taytay that accepts this kind of jobs. Locals in Taytay call this kind of service as "ipit" or "paipit", they coined that word because of the two processes, jointing and thicknessing. Some shops have a 2 blades in one machine, upper and lower planer blades, hence the word "ipit". Along in Maria Clara too you can find a shop that offer bandsawing service which they call "tistisan". They can resaw wood planks as tall as 24" inches and they also accept band saw blade welding and sharpening, and band saw tooth setting.

Re: Jointer / Planer service

Hi Boggieman! Thanks for sharing ideas on rip saw and I’m now looking for frame saw design ideas, tanong ko na din kung san makakasource ng bandsaw blade? Hindi lang ako confident pa sa hand skills and tool limitations ko kaya I looked for thicknessing and/or jointing services. For your project with the rip saw in action, yes , I’m interested to see, observe and learn from it. I’m now also considering on having a jack plane and smoothing plane, can you pm me the contact details of the guy you refer who sells those types of hand planes so I can canvas for best prices:) Next challenge naman is to flatten those soles.

To Armand, thanks for clarifying "ipit" and "tistis" terms and locating them also. I forgot pala to mention that I reside in Novaliches, but even before pa I’m already planning to have a trip to Rizal because of different types of wood available. Also now considering particularly Maria Clara street for their ipit and tistis services. Gusto ko din matuto tumingin ng kahoy so I can name them at hindi maloko
hehehe..

Dami ko pa kailangan matutunan at mapractice!! Muli maraming salamat Boggieman at Armand!

Re: Jointer / Planer service

Chidori,

You can get the bandsaw blade at Panda tools, meron po sa Quezon ave. cor Araneta ave. Mas malapit po to sa location mo coming from Nova. Last I asked they have 1/4 to 1 1/2. Unfortunately 1 1/2 lang pinaka malaki nila na pede tingi. I post ko po yung project ko na bench. I used 120 grit to flatten the sole of my planes, stick with double sided tape to tile, it works for me πŸ™‚ Will send you PM about the planer seller.

Re: Jointer / Planer service

Hi Boggieman, Armand, thanks for your reply. :thanks:

I really wanted the planks squared as easy as possible. I only get a chance doing wood working during weekends when i visit my monster in-law. πŸ˜€ (Laguna)

The wood size is 3 inches thick 14 inches wide and 3 1/2 feet . I have two of these which I don't know if enough to build a decent coffee table.

Also, i'm contemplating of getting a 2nd hand ticknesser sa olx yung raiobi ba yon? Any feedback? or else baka magmakaawa ako sa asawa ko to give me a Makita ticknesser for christmas. πŸ˜€

Currently I owned two Groz a no. 4 and no. 7, both purchased from sir Norwin if I'm not mistaken, I meet him from sulit.com. His from Marikina area. I also have a jack plane, Its a Stanley 12-205 handyman. The Groz is a cheap class I believe, but its working for me, of-course you need to bring it to a working level.

Hi Boggieman!

Sorry ngayon lang ako nakacontact ulit. Mula nung naiba yung PHM hindi ko makita yung mga messages sa inbox ko. Anyway, nakabili na ako ng jack plane from the time na hindi ako makapagmessage (or hindi ko alam kung may pumapasok ba sa inbox ko), thanks for your generosity to share me a supplier which you can now pass to canon who's looking for hand plane.

Regarding sa image na nakita kong saw horse at rip cut saw mo, ang ganda at ang linis ng cut! I still don't have that band saw blade but will try first to file a saw to a rip cut like yours.

P.S. If we still can't easily contact here in PHM I'm still available at cab1net.

Many thanks!
Chidori

I am also new to this hobby, I am still practicing on recycled pallet woods, so those lumber really is ugly and going on all directions. I go to my local Sash factory (gawaan nga mga pinto furnitures etc) they have jointer and planer. The last time I tried with them around 25 planks, the guy is charging me 200 pesos but I gave 300 pesos because I want to visit again for another round.
