Re: lazy sunday, did some "spring" cleaning

i tried the block plane... grabe it glides and i get nice shavings!

the smoothing plane will be used tonight on the 8 seater table (may mga nag cup na boards grrr)

here is another tip. wipe the sole with floor wax (we use Johnson's) for an even better slide...

Re: lazy sunday, did some "spring" cleaning

You can also use parafin wax. Just rub the candle on the sole of the plane.

that is what i meant...but you installed it at the tail end as seen in your pics early on.

so that 53 is way wider than the 52 1/2.

and heavier!

Re: lazy sunday, did some "spring" cleaning

i was cussing while i was installing the vise......WHy?

coz its TOO BIG as a front vise, it was hitting the backing of the shelves underneath (too long too)

So i had to swap the 52 1/2 to the front and placed the 53 back at the tail end..... I am glad i have lots of 2.5 inch heavy duty tekscrews 🙂 no need carriage bolts! now my bench feels much heavier. Will post pics tomorrow

Re: lazy sunday, did some "spring" cleaning

now i just need to make the aprons flush.... did that make sense?

by adding wood across the entire apron, i would just then chisel out a notch for the vise... so its flush all throughout for both vises

Re: lazy sunday, did some "spring" cleaning

While browsing over the various threads this morning I came across
sir beebeenator's **lazy sunday, did some "spring" cleaning** topic..

I just don't know if this is the right thread to post my reaction or response with regards to his topic but what the heck maybe I'll just post it

Here goes, well I too have a room or a place where I do my paintings
and for us artists calls it " Artist's Painting Studio" , its a place where we
create and produce works of art. But I think my studio needs more than just some spring cleaning,

Every time I would see pics of other established artist"s spacious and
well organized studios, oh how I wish I had one too,;) and during my
browsing period I would come across posted pics of sir timber, sir jay
or sir beebeenator's spacious and organized workplace, I would find myself saying to myself, these are workshops of serious DIYers and also can't help react by saying HAAAAAY nakaka inggit naman sila,
such clean, spacious and well organize working place.

Actually for the past one or two years now I haven"t touched my paintbrush and canvas, the unfinished painting is just on the easel
already gathering dust. I guess I"ve been so busy with other DIY chores in the farm attending to landscaping, gardening, planting trees, fencing the property etc etc etc.

Also noticed in my studio that I have stashed and stocked assorted tools for gardening, woodworking and for metal working and they are all eating up flooring space making it difficult for me to move around and do my paintings. Recently my wife noticed my situation in the studio and suggested why not buy new shelves or for that matter build or make new large metal movable rack with shelves for my tools.
hmmmmm how come I didn't think of that:confused:

WOW what a great idea, yes if I make a large rack with multiple shelves it will solve my problem inside the studio and in the process
since I have the proper tools to fabricate, I can continue practicing my welding skills and possibly share my projects with my PHM DIYers.

Great!;) just have to organize and check my scheds.

Anyway someday if not soon, I will definitely realize my dream of building a separate studio with rooms for woodworking and metal
art working in one roof. For the main painting studio, a spacious one with lots of walls available to hang my paintings.

AHHHHHHH, dreams dreams and more dreams;)

Re: lazy sunday, did some "spring" cleaning

Hey Rosy, I have actually just finished making shelves and tool holders for my shop as well. shop furniture need not be fancy for me and thus I used scrap wood(mostly plywood cut-offs). now, they need not to be art works it would be nice if they can help you hone your skills. you can practice your joints, finishing techniques and others that should improve your skills.
of course sometimes I have little patience, then I use Kreg 😀

unless I am into a project of course which takes most of my attention.:p

Re: lazy sunday, did some "spring" cleaning

Hi there sir timber, thanks for the reply I thought I was being reprimanded for posting such
lenghty message, but then that is just how I feel and want to simply share it with my new friends.

Congratulations sir for for your new shelves and tool holders. Actally I was not thinking of doing a fancy rack with multiple shelving. Since I have one already I intend to just copy the existing one and make two more racks. I'll just buy some 2x2 tubulars and angle bars, also round bars and some bolts and nuts to make the shelve movable.

When it comes to woodworking, my tools are very basic, the typical hand saw and hammer,
some basic chiesels though I now have a skill power saw and an electric planer given by my two boys as gifts last x-mas. Have some wood sanders and recently bought one from
sir pyth. So if you are gonna look at my tool, kulang na kulang pa, still in the process of nag
iipon pa.

Sir timber, Iam more confident with using metal for the rack/shelves project coz I have the prop[er tools and have done DIY welding projects here in my place.
