Ok...

My SWMBO and I are inviting my side of the family to come over the house.

It is high time we "officially" invite them (which is kinda weird because we always expect our parents to invite themselves.... ??? but that never happened)

I need to have a lazy susan up and running by April 4 on top of having the crib finishing by May 30 and i need to finish the dog house and the polycarbonate shade for the sampayan area... ok ok maybe I am indeed trying to kill myself. 🙂

going back to the lazy susan there are two joints I am contemplating for this 1.3m diameter beast. our table is 2.1m. One is dowel jointed. the other is tongue and groove. The lazy susan mehcanism foot print underneath is 76 cm. this gives somwhat adequate room for battens.

My question is . Should i just go with the dowel method or the tongue and groove. With the tongue and groove i have to use straight bits

Also another question how thick should my stock be if the diameter is 1.30 meters?

Re: lazy susan challenge, need help

Sorry i wasnt able to make it clear 🙂

i am making a wooden lazy susan. I am skipping the use of a plywood (which I could probably finish in .... 6) and was thinking of making a panel then cutting it to a circle. this enable me to create a nice edge trim

So since i will be using 1 x 4's or 2 x 4's I will was thinking i cant just butt joint the pieces. since i will be joining at least 5 -6 pieces or could i just butt joint it?

Re: lazy susan challenge, need help

butt joint is your best bet bro., a finger joint on it is way difficult with the crazy angles. t&g would be ok as long as you have a hexagonal or straight corners.
butt joint will work since you still have a long grain to long grain bond on the main board, hence provide you with the strength you want.

You know, you could easily buy an aluminum lazy susan at Ace Hardware or True Value...

But that wouldn't be fun...
